Canon 450D upgrading of lens??

yupyup. from wad he suggested is getting a 15-85mm. after which for further focal to get is a 70-200mm.

anyone have any idea of how much it cost out there??

the price guide ain't updated. maybe someone out there can hint alittle. =)

if i ain't shooting fast objects like sports. the shutter speed for 15-85mm is sufficient??

You don't really need a fast lens if you are using a wide angle lenses,
a fast lenses (wide open, like f/2.8) is needed in some situations where u need speed,
but in most situations, u don't really need a fast lens in a wide angle lenses

Besides, today camera provides a high iso that will help u when u need it

Perhaps you can call up the shops and ask? More than $1K I suppose?

Hi ernstay,

i have exactly the same headache as you! bought the camera same period also. after shooting for a while with the 18-55 kit lens, i found tat on the wide side, i am still ok, however, it just falls a bit short on the zoom end.... btw, i take mainly landscape and portraits, nothing on birds/sports yet.

i've done some research, and would like to share what i've found out (experts here please comment whether its the right upgrade 'path' )
- keep the kit lens
- buy the EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS (~S$630) as a travel lens (cos i'm not gonna bring too many lens on my travel)
- buy the Speedlite 430EXII (~S$470) (yes, i know the 580 is better, but me still picking up, will try to keep budget low for now. will use the 430 as a slave when i upgrade to 580 in e future hehe)
- buy a 100+ to 300 lens for telephoto (have not research which lens yet)
- buy the Canon Macro Lens EF 100mm f/2.8 USM (~S$830)

why the 18-135 and not the 18-200 if you ask? i think that the IQ is just slightly better on the 135. its lighter as a walk-around lens, and it doesnt suffer from zoom creep (can some1 who owns this lens confirm? thanks!)

nope, me still at step 1 - kit lens! haha..... cos i still cant decide whether to purchase the canon 18-135 or the sigma 18-250mm. high chance is i will go for the canon cos even though the sigma has a wider range, it does have its own fair share of 'problems' for a glass that wide....

can check with your dad what is his view on his 18-135? i am really tempted to get this.... can check whether there's any lens creep as i would hate it as most of the time i sling it around my shoulder... thanks!

It means they are items meant for another market, like HK, JP, etc. Some countries have better pricing so they order items from the distributor in those markets then resell them. Some items like camera bodies etc have no warranty with the service center if its an imported set, warranty issues have to go through the website.

This means that you had yet to use it's full potential. Having owned & used a few primes & F2.8 zooms (including Ls), the Canon 18-200mm IS still remains my fav lens and one of my most frequent used as well. :thumbsup:

but i kinda regret buying on impulse only to realise that i dont really need such zoom range.

It just means the warranty part is different. Parallel imported usually does not carry any warranty. Sometimes the shop that sells them provide limited store warranty.

If you can get lenses from other countries which carry international warranty, there is actually no difference since Canon SG will honor the warranty service provided you have the warranty card AND the original receipt.

As mentioned above, lenses that carry international warranty is no different from the SG local sets. Just that SG local sets might carry a higher price tag but is more convenient to buy since you don't have to get them shipped over here or go there in person to buy.

actually, u don't really need a tele lens, like I said, it's only less than 1%

Better a 15-85mm, that would be a lot usefull rather than a tele

your photography style/interest does not equate to others' photography style/interest.

I agreed EF-S 18-200mm is a very good and useful convinient lens. =)
It also used to be the only lens I used whenever when I go for shooting.

However when I venture into more shooting for the past 6 months, I came to realise my shooting style is more on wide angle shot than zooming mainly due to shooting more on city/landscape.

And now as I was given the choices of other lens due to BBB poison =X
I now mainly shoot with 17-40mm L due to it better IQ.

I guess is only a matter of time I will be selling of the EF-S 18-200mm not because it is not a good lens which don't serve me well, but rather it will no longer be useable when I go to FF in the near future. Maybe like the release of 5DMKIII which might take sometime lol.
