Canon 400D

Wow! Didn't expect the flash light to be so costly. Looks like I cannot use my old flash light. If that is the case, then I am tempted to get E500 Olympus which comes with dual lens which is cheaper.

Olympus lenses are disappointing, especially when you look at their MTF graphs...

compared to Nikon or Canon, the results of the MTFs are much to be desired.

But they do have a 4/3s system.... and I suppose that's their getaway excuse for their sub-standard lenses.

great news if 40D is gonna be launched soon....
This will mean the price for 400D will be going down slightly:lovegrin:

I guess you mean 30D, right?
Don't think the price of 400D will go down if 40D is officially out.

We will only know the prices until the day comes.. hehe..

Im in a similar situation as the OP. But I'm starting to lean towards the D80 Kit with the 18-135mm lens rather than replace the Canon kit lens with something better.

Is there a Canon equivelant lens for a similar price?

Nope, there is no equivalent.

Not sure if you can get a 400D body only, but if you can, that would be a better idea. Get the body, then maybe get a good 3rd party walkabout such as the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. My friend did so (though he got 30D instead) and is singing praises about the whole package.

canon 17-55mm IS USM worthy lens also.. :)

what sort of lens "arsenal" is best for town walkaround, travel and portraits shots? say budget around 2-3k excluding the body.

24-70mm f/2.8L USM, or
24-105mm f/4L IS USM

won't the 24-105 be too short for walkaround? especially if you wanna do close up?

A Tamron/Sigma 18-200 would do and cost less than a grand.

What kinda close ups are you planning to shoot? 105mm can get you a decent head-only ECU (extreme-close up).

Hi, does anybody know which shop offer credit card instalment plan for Canon Lens? Thinking of buying 70-200mm f2.8 IS L Lens but not able to cough up so much $$$. Thanks. :)

consider getting a 24-105mm grey set and a 70-200mm f4L lens would be great...

Hi, thanks for the info. :D

had a tamron 18-200 previously, but the pictures at 100+ 200 are not very sharp. but i have to say that its a very good range for walk around and its compact. so now looking for a canon len for its sharpness.

A Tamron/Sigma 18-200 would do and cost less than a grand.

for e.g, the india temple beside the guan yin temple at bencoolen st, you can't go in to shoot, but you would like to shoot the atmosphere inside, 105mm would not be sufficient taking the photo from outside.
