If you have plenty of $$$, then use Leica on Canon (or is it Carl Zeiss?), or customise-build your own lenses. Then in that scenerio, Canon lenses no good lor...

I am a Nikon convert. To me, both Nikon and Canon lenses are sharp enough for me. If you are talking superly sharp, like katana standard, then I dare not guarantee.

For general purpose, like me to take family photos, and the occassional school event and wedding, it good enough for me.

so sharp it'll cut ur CMOS in half! =P

u could always go for the third party Sigma 70-200 f2.8. i believe that it's cheaper than even the Canon 70-200 f4 (please correct me if i am wrong here)

400D body: abt S$1300. You will be left with S$700 for lens and flash. Flash est S$700 (for 580ex). No money for lens liao. IMHO, you will prob need at least 4K (comforatable) if you gonna get the 70-200. My suggestion: Look for old 80-200 f/2.8L (lens code UI or UJ). Those abt 1k +-. If really tight, go for a used 350D (abt S$800 +-, S$500 savings liao)

You have to ask if you really need the 2.8 and IS. To me, IS is good to have, but don't have also never mind. 2.8 also no need to have (for me lar). Most of my shots are at ISO100, f/8 and 1/800.

I am using a code UI 80-200 f/2.8L (1994 batch??), and the pics are super sharp. Only problem: Lens is heavy. Wanna Test?? I can let you try the lens PM me if interested.

Wow! Didn't expect the flash light to be so costly. Looks like I cannot use my old flash light. If that is the case, then I am tempted to get E500 Olympus which comes with dual lens which is cheaper.

Hi Bro,

If you are no going for the latest gadgets or technology, you can still buy the Canon system for $2,000 in the 2nd hand market.

1) EOS 10D + Grip ~ $1,000 or

2) EOS 350D + Grip ~ $,1000

3) 420EX flash ~ $220

4) Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 ~ $550 or

5) Canon 18-55mm kit lens ~ $80

6) Sigma 70-300mm ~ $330

The most important thing is to learn about photography. Equipment are just tools for you to capture the images.

Olympus E500? Cheaper but at what expense? IMHO, olympus DSLR have the worst noise control among all the brand which includes Sony due to its smaller sensor. Furthermore, it low light focusing loses out to both Canon and Nikon quite abit. Seriously go for the 400D and you will not regret. I know I haven't :)

true also.. canon sells expensive and high end products which can drain yr piggy bank.. getting third products can be alternative and feasible option which allows u to get exposed the different equipments which are of similiar specs as Canon ones... this way u wont drain your piggy bank..

Wait. Dont buy first unless you really need it urgently. Prices will be adjusted this coming March. New Canon 40D will be launched. The other models will be affected and prices will tumble down a little.

It's many many many pieces of glass in a white bazooka, with a red ring around the barrel.

That's good news. However, the prices would also be affected by the increase of GST.

yeah.. so the revision of prices is just to counter the gst only.. hai..

plus multiple stages of polishing of the lens using giant machinery..

great news if 40D is gonna be launched soon....
This will mean the price for 400D will be going down slightly:lovegrin:

Dun think 40D will be launching so soon since 30D was launched less than a year.. 30D users are going to revolt if canon launches 40D hehe..
