Singapore Air Show 2010

Always wanted to do a test of the lens focusing speed under a hot afternoon sun. The focal length is 200mm at an aperture of F5.6, shutter speed is 1/800 taken in ISO 200.

The image is crop slightly for composition purposes (Cause I can't wave my hands and ask the pilot to position his plane for my shot).

The EXIF details can be found in the photo.

The shot below was taken using Canon 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 IS :

Constructive criticisms & comments are welcomed... :)

seems to me that this lens really can produce sharp images contrary to the popular belief that long range lenses will compromise image quality! hmm, this lens seems to be a good choice for ppl whom want a all in one from wide to zoom without having the need to change lens!

I am starting to find it a hassle to change between my walkaround lens and zoom! damn...

Nice shot of the aircraft! Was this with AI Servo?

hi,

after reading all the post and picture posted. I have decided to get one of the lens, would anyone advise me where can I get it cheap.

Thk

I will recommend you to go to the Price Guide section and take a look. You can also compare prices. The best is to call them and check theier prices before getting the lens.

Thanks, to me the tool is only as good as it's wielder. I only hope that my shots did justice to the lens. :)

Glad you like the shot. Yes, AI Servo with center AF point selected. Even though this lens does not have USM, it surprising quite nimble if focusing. ;)

Sold my 18-55 n getting 18-200 next month... ^^

Just a few newbie questions:
1. Is there's a need for a batt grip??
2. Is there a need for hood?? If yes, what type??

Thanks in advance

1. if u want better grip and/or longer battery life, then get one.
2. depends on you. u know what the hood is used for in the first place? u can get an OEM from any photoshop like orient photo, cathay photo etc. Or you can buy a specific Canon hood for this lens. Go to canon website and check out the model suitable for your lens.

If you are using a XXXD or XXXXD camera, BG does help to balance the weight of this lens. Having said this, I normally don't use the BG when I am traveling oversea mainly for compact purposes (the main reason why I got 450D as one of my camera).

I do use a hood for this lens, mainly to protect it against any accidentally knocks. The product code for the lens hood is EW-78D.

Hope these information is useful to you. Have fun with the the lens :)

we have seen this 18-200mm performs wonderful jobs in day time with bright lights, how about in low light situation such as restaurant with and without flash.
anyone wants to post some pictures to see how well it performs. Thanks.

Hi hi everyone

3 wks ago, I was a die hard fan of my Tamron17-50, believing I would never trade the IQ & F2.8 for convenience. Now I am a total convert.

Besides, for an amateur like me, the IQ of the 18-200 is more than enough.
