Canon 10D users: When are you guys gonna upgrade?

What would you consider as "general servicing"? Will they do calibration on the camera that may cause backfocusing or they will just clean the sensor, test the shutter, etc). I don't think my camera is back focus now (at least with the lenses that I have) and I am a bit worry that it will if they do some sort of calibration work when they service the camera. Last but not least, any clue on how much will that cost?

Very interesting point. I had a slight problem with the 10D and 24-70L combo lately. Seems like a bit of back focussing esp with subjects that are not contrasty.
Then use my wife's 350D - picture sharp again. Could it be the 10D is beginning to have some problems?

servicing is between S$150 to S180. sorry but can't remember exactly.

they'll basically clean internal and external, check circuitry, hardware and software checks. not too sure abt the calibration check though.

Haha okok...misread there.

Yah i still love my EOS 30 though ever since i've got my 10D, it's now been sitting in the dry cabinet untouched.

The EOS 30 is a great film SLR with semi-pro features. :)

do yur EOS30 a favor and load up a roll of slides and bring it out for a walk!!

one feature of the EOS30 which i wish Canon would carry over to their digital range is the eye control.

call me old school but although i shoot digital often these days i still believe in using film as it teaches u the discipline of photography; the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO. makes u really think about yur shoot since every exposure is money.

that's why whenever i feel i need to "sharpen my sword" or go on a personal project it's film for me.

yur best bet would be to take both the 10D and 350D together with the 24-70L down to Canon to check.

You move from 10D to 20D??? :sticktong
Really what. :D

10D AF is good enough to cover wildlife and sports.... unless you are a pro whom absolutely cannot miss any shots.
Wildlife maybe...it works fine for static shots but not for fast action...same goes for sports. The AF just cannot keep up. I tried this bugger at soccer and it was near impossible to get any keepers..maybe just a couple out of say 30 shots?

Wildlife is still ok. For sports or fast-action, might as well get 1D Mk IIn. Start up time is no big deal to me and AF speed is similar to both 20D and 30D IMO.

20D/30D is good enough for sports.
When you say ''might as well'' have you considered the price difference between the bodies?

For users who cannot afford the 1DII, the 20D will do justwell for sports. It just takes a little more hard work.

As for wildlife, if you're talking about animals moving at a very rapid speed, to me, its no different from shooting sports.

AF speed is slower on the 10D though.I am not trying to put the camera down, but it is a technological fact.Perhaps your shooting style varies from mine that is why we do not see the difference.

That again said, its still the photographer behind the camera that captures the photo.

Well i don't use the eye-control function so it doesn't matter to me. The EOS 30 is still one solid SLR!

Price doesn't matte to me, most impt is the camera itself. I didn't get the 1D series cos i don't take sports or fast-moving stuffs so no point.

then why not the 1dsmk2 when price doesn't matter to u? why a 10d? i'm just very curious.

hmm..lemme guess

He dosent shoot in the rain, so he dosent need weather sealing...
He dosent shoot sports so he dosent need the AF(or rather, his AF is good even in total darkness when we cant even see)
He dosent need the FF sensor and the resolution cuz he aint gonna shoot for big prints

hahaa! then why not d30?

cuz it's AF is not as good as his 10D, which can focuz in total darkness?

lol. i am using a 10d and sometimes with 580ex using IR assist, it's hard/near impossible to do that.. how sia.. this whole thing is cracking me up! haha

u know, there are people who just shoot for the joy of shooting irregardless of whatever kind of equipment they happen to have at that point of time.

photography shouldn't be about having the latest and greatest gizmo that's the flavor of the moment.

end of the day, these equipment are just tools. a means to an end.

then why not the 1dsmk2 when price doesn't matter to u? why a 10d? i'm just very curious.

Simple. I don't take sports or fast-moving objects so y splurge the extra??
