Canon 10D users: When are you guys gonna upgrade?

Wildlife is still ok. For sports or fast-action, might as well get 1D Mk IIn. Start up time is no big deal to me and AF speed is similar to both 20D and 30D IMO.
Did you ever try 20D/30D before? :dunno: There is a difference in AF speed. 20D/30D is at least 30% faster. The central sensor of 20D/30D becomes a sensitive cross sensor type similar to those found in 1 series when lens of apertures f2.8 or faster is used. Locks on faster in low light than 10D too.

hahah. garion, then he will say he doesn't need that fast AF as the 10d is more than enough. he's not shooting sports/wildlife.. haha

I didn't derive it, it was just an approximation based on my past experience with the two models. But the 20D/30D bodies are definitely faster than 10D in AF.

Of cos i did use both cams, some of my friends own the 20D and 30D but i really find AF speed no diff.

i've heard comparisons abt the AF between the 10D and the 20D/30D among other photographers when we're comparing notes.

think it actually boils down to the way the focusing points are arranged between the two cameras. some f/t photographers that i know dun like the diamond layout of the focusing points of the 20D/30D preferring the cross layout of the 10D 'coz we find it faster to lock onto a certain point.

so it just boils down to personal shooting style. no right, no wrong.

wow...your 10D must be a wonder camera man...:bsmilie:
since the AF is really that good....I really dont think you should get the 1DmkII for sports if you shoot it, even if you're just a hobbyist.

Considering the improvements in noise reductions of the 20D and 30D and all the other bits of niceties like 0.2sec start ups and usb2.0+++ when will you decide to upgrade and what will be the reasons for it?

I upgraded to the EOS-1D instead. 10D is now the backup machine, great combination.

Yes it's really great. I'm just a hobbyist. If i'm into sports then i'll get the 1D series.
