+3 or +2? ;)

81B is warm filter, B&W red filter is 25A(Red).

Cheers.

Er. Why don't you use software to process your photos into black and white. I use this software called DCE Autoenhance to simulate filters. It's pretty good.

Alternatively, if you can find the shade of red, you can apply a layer in Photoshop. For digital, it's so easy to manipulate your shots post-exposure, that for me, the only two filters I use are a UV filter (to protect the lens), and a polarizer.

I don't see much point in using an ND, unless it's really that bright, because the depth of field is already so great on pro/consumer digital cameras, because of the small sensor size.

have u ever tried shooting a waterfall in the daytime? ;)
my cam can't shoot the sun in late afternoon -- early evening... so I want something to play with...
and heh filters more fun than PS... I can PS anything I want, big moon city scene, birds over merlion etc....

Hehe. I guess a ND filter would be useful for that. I know that PS can do just about anything with the photos, but I mean, that's the advantage of the digital darkroom.

I understand what you mean when you say it's fun, because I find shooting black & white film with a manual camera, then processing and developing it myself really fun. But I don't know, why spend the $15 - $20 per filter when PS can do it for you? I wouldn't think that color correction filters are as critical for digital photography, as they are for film.

yeah nothing beats b/w on film cam!
yeah maybe I'll just get polly and nadia... LOL oh yeah and the +2

Haha. Yea. Do try out that software. Think they have a 30-day trial, but er, you can of course find stuff that I won't mention here.

The filter simulator is really quite cool, and it makes it easy to batch process photos. :D

u guys think it's useful to have a thread with updated filter prices?
i find that since i don't know the prices i should expect, buying filters can be tricky, can get like a $23 quote from 1 salesman and $20 from another within the same shop.

i got hoya ND8 62mm $20 at AP

nah really tough... it's so many sizes and so many types... not like we get the price list direct like PC shops....

so a rough gauge I guess...

well if were to as usual compile a list like HWZ and update its details, prices esp for filters dun change that fast ...
better than letting our newbies (me) get conned all the time ...

just got a $12 tokina 58mm skylight filter from CP marina.
Actually asked for a UV but din check b4 i left the shop, ended up it was a skylight.

any1 has experience with improvement of picture quality with expensive filters?

to update some prices and highlight the differences:

Fotoguide:
Hoya ND8 62mm $17.50
Hoya ND8 58mm $13.50

Alan Photo:
Hoya ND8 62mm $23 from one scruffy salesman and $20 from another.
Hoya(Tokina) 58mm UV $10
