Can name me some high end Asian brands and products??

generally outside of japan and south korea i don't touch asian brands. for the most part it's about quality and customer service. some have mentioned singapore products, i personally do not find singapore products to be of good quality. i find products like creative and consus to be low grade, low quality, and customer service is horrendous. products made in china, well, again i find it to be low quality. it's just my opinion but countries like japan have a reputation for honor and it goes into the products they make. countries like china, well, the pride and honor is just not seen in their products and many see chinese companies as only out to make a dollar by any means so the trust or consumer confidence is just not there for western countries. i personally see chinese products as cheaply made, therfore cheap quality. i'd rather buy something i know is built right and made to last and do what i need it to do worry free instead of only looking at the price tag and wanting cheap cheap because that is what you will get...cheap cheap.

some might argue and say many american products are made in china, true, but for the most part there are quality control measures because it is their reputation on the line.

just my opinion, but as with anything it is about image. Japan has a good image and superior markeing and is head and shoulders above any other asian country regarding image and quality.

Yamaha is considered middle-range at best I guess.

There's stuff like English pianos and of course, German pianos are even more crazy. Etc.

It seems that most (it reads "most" not "all") high end brands and products are from ang mo countries. Things like fine watches, furniture, high end audio products, cars, aeroplanes, fashion, bags ... ...

Very few Asian products are high end one huh??

oil rig faster in sg, you must be joking, they are usually small jack up rigs, the bigger and solid ones are still built by other country.

Singapore does not have true engineer that can make product that will make a mark in the world market. Or there is which i nv hear of?

So? Isn't it also their product? If u have a product, u brand it and sell it! And there u go, branding. Customers have a selection when it comes to airlines. So they have to compete and to do that, they need a good product and branding in order to attract customers.

SG's tourism board is also branding SG as a product in order to attract tourists.

That's just colonial mentality. US universities really aren't that good. I would personally respect a graduate of the University of Tokyo more than a US college frat boy.

Your problem is that you're seeing things from an "asian colonial mentality" perspective. You immediately have the presumption that the best brands, schools, cars, etc, are from ang moh countries.

If you actually lived in those ang moh countries, you'd have a different perspective. Lexus is greatly admired in the US, and asian fashion, cosmetics, food and electronics are in demand especially in europe. Mercedes? Audi? They're just taxis in germany. BMW? Nice, but everyone has one. Mitsubishi Evolution? Subaru Impreza? Now you're talking desirable!!

Seiko has a luxury division that made fine watches. It is call "Grand Seiko". There are people who collect these high end Seikos.

Yes. But the lines are not always that clear...

Canon, Fuji, Nikon, etc... panders too much to the mass market to be considered really high-end. If you want to be high-end, you must be 'atas' and ignore the plebians. Some might say, elitist? However, Canon makes some really great stuff that even the rich and famous will desire. For example, their L lenses, or their 1D Mkxxx cameras... Whatever works for them lah...

But once you brand yourself as high-end, you will scare away the mass market customers... For example, I will never touch a Hasseblad (spelling pls) because it's way beyond my means... so much so that I don't even know how to spell it.

If they want to capture the mass market, they will sometimes create another brand to do that. For example, we have Armani Exchange? Maybe I can afford the Hassebleh? :sticktong
