Both are excellent cameras, and both are good enough for most users. Better go to a shop where you can hold both camera and see which one you like better in your own hands. And you know, the COMEX is coming in two days, I'm sure you'd see these two cameras there at the show ;)

since this will be my 1st dslr i want to buy the best that i can get to my budget, but it seems that k100 have functions that k10 dont have
but new features available in k10 is far beyond from k100 (im not sure about that)
yup need to decide and need to make decision now!:dunno:

K10D buy buy buy

Since this is your first dSLR, have you considered other investments such as

1) Flash
2) Batteries
3) Memory cards
4) Bags
5) place to store the equipment
6) HD space
7) Back up solutions($$$)
8) Lens

If you have a tight budget, K100D is the way for you. The difference can be used to purchase the above list, or other commitments that you have. Many who went the dSLR path have always forgotten the list above. I went for the K100D for this sole reason.

very good informations
many things to learn many question hanging on my mind now like
1) flash - is this not included. i mean the cam dont have a built in flash
2) battery - battery not included?
3) memory cards - noted
4)bag - i think most of the stores will give you a free bag (am i right?)
5)place to store - noted
6)Hd space - noted
7)Backup solutions - can you enlighten me about this, in general what it is? (sorry for my ignorance)
8)lens - k10 or k100 - i will stick to kit lense im not in a hurry to upgrade (i hope so)
thanks for the suggestions in count a lot

1) Built-in may not meet your needs depending on what you're shooting.
2) Wouldn't you want backup batteries? In case your battery dies in the middle of a shoot.
4) Usually during fairs and promotion, yes. But usually only big enough to hold just camera.
7) To backup your harddisk as backup in case it crash.

Hi All,

Me oso considering to buy but need advises...
I planning to get dual kit, check with OP they say no stock for 50-200mm.
Check wif CP they say they only have single kit if wan dual kit just buy another addition of 50-200mm lens price abt the same. Check wif MSColor they oso only single kit package.

Do you all think i shld wait to get dual kit or get single kit n buy separately the 50-200mm lens? Which one more worth it? Also another thing is for single kit the price that i got from OP and CP is abt 100-200 difference. OP much more cheaper. R they reliable? Or shld I get frm CP, which I know that their service is good as I got buy things frm them b4.

Thanks for all kind advises, as first time gg to buy DSLR, so dun wan 2 regret my decision.

For questions on OP with regards to price, service and reliability, do a search for "grey sets" in this forum and you should find quite a lot of info. ;)

If you can't get the dual kit package, go and get the single kit package first. Later on you can always buy the 50-200, even from second hand market. The 50-200 isn't an expensive lens anyway.

As to buy from OP or CP, depends on if you prefer official Pentax warranty (if buy from CP) or shop warranty (from OP). Not a bid deal I guess, but some people do prefer official warranties :)

External flash is significantly better than the inbuilt one no matter what IMHO. I have never regretted getting a flash gun over better lenses. Back up here is like what alanswan mentioned. Think of another way is to back up to DVD and they cost $$$ too. HD can crash/fail anytime, even a spanking new HD can also fail. Imagine all your life long memories gone!

My suggestion to you is to explore the kit lens first. It is quite a good lens, and that's the lens that sticks to my body atlease 80-90% of the time. It may not be fast, but with SR and a flash gun(for me) makes up for the lost 'speed'.

Batteries and memory cards are a must.
Don't worry about storage just yet. Maybe as interim measure, can burn your best shots onto CDs as backup, but must be disciplined to delete those shot that are so-so or cannot make it.

Much as I don't use electronic flash a lot, it is a definitely useful addition to have as the camera's flip-up flash isn't too powerful. Another item to consider is a tripod. You'll find that there's lots to shoot when exposure times extend beyond what can be shot handheld (low light, sunrise/sunsets, group/self-portraits, IR, fireworks, etc.).

Thanks for the advises...
Read a thread on OP, seems like they got alot of supporters...
Think I'll go ard do some homework 1st n hopefully by end this yr can get my hands on K10D...
I tried it in CP few days back, the feel when holding it is gd...

You should try it with the batt grip.
I tried out a k10d owned by someone in my photo group and the feel with the batt grip is just great. A little heavy, but i think the benefits are there.

Hmmm mayb will drop by CP again to test it out...
But most likely getting w/o the batt grip 1st...
Then later on save up 2 get the batt grip...
Now still planning and do some research b4 deciding go which shop buy...
Thanks...

what is OP and CP ? so sorry cant understand

OP - Orient Photo shop on top floor of sim lim square, very nice people there, pricing is good although grey set (i.e. no warranty except if you bring back to shop) - prices have been going up slightly recently but maybe due to gst

CP - Cathay Photo shop in Peninsula Plaza and Marina Square, pricing is a bit above average but always has stock, and usually do not vary pricing much, service is also quite erratic but on the whole still quite ok and reliable

thanks for the info, you answer my nxt question (where store to buy ;p)

thanks for the info, you answer my nxt question (where store to buy ;p)

are you the sort who likes risks?

but frankly i don't see any need to buy with warranty 1 year only
plus op gives you in shop warranty any problem they send back to china or don't know where to repair

I think if i gg to buy will get at OP.
Coz the price is like abt $100-$200 differences...
But the thing is CP got give 2 2gb SD card and additional Li-on battery..
For OP i think is the standard package only..
So mayb this total up abt $100-$200
