Have one these cameras and found that they are a little sensitive to IR light but not enough.
Do these cameras have an ir cut filter that can be removed?
Thanks for any info.

Link to IR pics taken with A640 with just an IR filter; camera not modded.

Thanks for the link.
Nice tree shot.
Tree leaves seems dark for it.

Present have R76 filter , ir pass 760nm.
Actually will be shooting with 850 nm band pass filter
on another Ccd camera.
Now using the a640 for ir snap shot
But looks like needs tripod.
So wondering if exposure can be improved
By removing ir cut filter if there is one
Thanks

Of course they will have an IR cut-off filter... Otherwise you will end up with IR contamination of your scene.

Scene without IR cut-off filter: http://www.lifepixel.com/infrared-filters-choices/full-spectrum-clear-filter

With IR cut-off filter (i.e. normal): http://www.lifepixel.com/infrared-filters-choices/normal-camera

Can it be modified, of course, but you need to find a tech who would do it for you.

Thanks.
Any shop in SG providing this service?
Just need to remove the ir cut filter.
Or anyone dares to try, its an old unused camera anyway.
Or any demo youtube to dismantle?

TIA

Thanks for the contact!
Contrary to normal practise, will go seek fatigue.

Thanks Allen :)

Yes, The IR cut filter is somehow part of the lens to focus the image on the sensor. Need replace it with an equivalent glass/filter

yup.. removal will physically change the focussing distance, normally we replace with "float" glass.
otherwise either the near end or the far end cant focus properly.

Thanks Allen :)

just buy a cheap modded one i guess... camera hospital prices are just way too high for me to afford (around 2-300 bucks if i'm not mistaken)
i just recently let go my canon 350d off at 350bucks. u shld be able to get one at those rates

so nice to have good market positioning..
any youtubes on how to dismantle a A640, mine just sitting collecting dust anyway
and also i bluetack the IR76 filter over it and managed to ripped out one cover when removing the IR filter as blue tac was too strong.
now no more shutter cover, guess just leave the ir filter over.
thanks for your help
