Hi people, I am going to Japan in the coming weeks.. Question is does anyone knows what is cheap to buy there? I am planning to get Singh-Ray/Lee gradual filters and SB800 speedlights.. What else can I get there cheaper and hopefully with international warranty? If flash is cheap there, anyone wants to tobang my lugguage space for SB800? Is there any place you people here know that I can go for such stuffs? Thanks.:)

The prices in japan are rather fixed, You can try Yoshimaya Camera, or Big-G. (hope i got their names correctly). Those buildings are very prominent; you can find them on the map of japan

thanks, bro plasma... I heard from a japan friend that there is this building call Yodobashi Camera at AKIHABARA JR station... selling cheap cameras and accessories.. hope i can see somethings there.. thanks.. anymore from others.. please input.

well i don know why ppl said it's cheap here
i have recently check out yodobashi, bic camera, map camera, i don think it's cheaper than Singapore price
i was quite disappointed myself
any bro here know why?

oooo... bro htthach, u went japan recently? was the trip good? I just hope to get some camera stuffs which i can hardly get from local stores here if over there is expensive.. like singh ray filters. thanks for ur feedback thou.

mainly i heard the lens are cheap but that is provided you know where to get them. I was recommended to try out those shops that are not tax-free. plus if u can speak Jap, it be a good advantage. I din really checked out the prices when I was there as I could not speak Jap.

Have an idea of the price before you fly for japan. Akihabara is really big and has a lot of electronics shops.

Hi,

May I suggest you loo for mapcamera in Shinjuku.
Some products are indeed cheaper in Japan only if you take in consideration the tax rebate
that you will get on the spot.

Most things are not cheap here. Tamron is cheap.....17-50mm f2.8 selling about $450+ which is cheaper than singapore. Only buy those things that are not common or always no stock. Nikon acc are cheap like MC-36, MC-30, etc......
D60, Nikon 16-85mm, sigma 35mm macro, etc are all out in Jap already. BR-2A is really cheap....$25 only and Nikon strap (really nice). so far i saw only Nikon 85mm f2.8 is cheaper than SG @ $507, else others lenses are X. HK is much cheaper.....make sure you check that it comes with international warranty.

Hope this helps.....

in japan, you will probably find imports more expensive than locally produced goods. in most cases imports may cost more in japan than in singapore.

what you should look at:
accessories: they have many there which are not available in singapore

small compacts: their prices are generally cheaper than singapore

dslr & lens: sometimes you can find good offers, when i was in japan in dec 2007, D40x kit offer at S$850 (sg price was S$970) and 18-200VRII over the counter price S$960 (sg price was S$1250 and still is), D300 intro price S$2999 with available stock (IIRC sg intro price S$2899 with limited stocks), so look around and you will find offers.

thanks all for the helpful tips!!! I will try to go and check out... How I hope tmr is the day in Japan... so anxious to go now...
bro danielcheong1974, u mean I can get tax rebate on the spot and not needed to go thru the hassle of rebating at tax free counters at airports like other countries?

bro bent, this is the only way i can help for the second website.. see if u can interpret more..

thanks for info here oso..:)

In Japan the when you buy Camera + Kit lens together its cheaper.

my mother in law going to Japan
wodering to get from the the EOS40D with Kit Lens I and 50mm 1.4.

Is there cheap ?
Lens/body/flash ?
Where near from Tokyo ?

Yes, Tamron lens are slightly cheaper in Japan. Accessories are worth getting as well e.g. original Canon lens caps just cost a few dollars compared to what you pay here in SG (more than 10 bucks), hand straps, remote units etc.

Any suggestions to get my stuff in Osaka?

Are sony and panasonic prices cheaper in Japan or Hong Kong?
Can anyone advise? :)

Just got back from Tokyo. Bought a Pentax lens there. I went to Yodobashi and MapCamera to compare prices. Map camera price was about $60 cheaper. The service there was also very good.

I have no idea of the lens' price in Singapore as it is a recently released lens and not available in Singapore yet. So can't compare to local pricing.

If you plan on going to Tokyo to buy lenses, Mapcamera may be a good stop to check out the prices.
