David,
Your Canon XH-1 HDV still works fine right? Still serving your purpose well?
Buy only what you need and upgrade only if necessary.
Do you think your client is going to pay you more for camera work just because you own a HVX as compared to your XH-1? Not unless you own the high end Varicams, but then again, even when you charge high prices for it, when will you make back the investment of your gears before it turns obsolete?
Good equipment doesn't make your films any better than a good content and a good storytelling technique does.
The move to HVX for my company is to support DVCProHD format for a client's requirement. Otherwise I am still happy with my current supported video formats in Digital Betacam, BetacamSP, BetacamSX, DVCAM & the consumer miniDV, HDV and AVCHD.
