Hello,

I m going HK tmr and was thinking of buying a tamron 28- 75mm lens.. I was wondering should I just get a parallel import there( grey set) or a HK local set... Either way I can't use any warranty here in sing..
I checked the prices online the grey ones sell for abt s$350 almost S$100 cheaper than the hk local set..

Any shops to recommend in HK? I m not Chinese, worried they might cheat me, knowing that I am tourist..

You can refer to all the previous "buying from hong kong" threads. Hint: There's a consumer corner for a reason.

Next, you need to figure out... Is buying from HK worth it if it is more expensive than locally, and local grey shops will give you local shop warranty too?

That thread is seriously outdated tho and no one ever replies anymore.

I bought mine from http://www.onestop-digital.com/, they have English speaking staff at specific times, email them what you need and check stock availability. I was told I could bring it back within the next few days for any problems for replacement, but I didn't have the need to cause the lens was good. They have both grey and with warranty.

HKers speaks good English. Go to Mongkok area, there is a Sai Yeung Choi street south. There are camera shops along this street. At the intersection of the mentioned street and Shantung street, there is a building named Sim City. There are about 3 levels of shops selling camera equipments.

If not sure, take the MTR to Mongkok and look at the signboard for which exit , or take a taxi. The street is near Langham Place.

Look at the Sony HK website and price.com.hk

Hint: new and in-demand cameras rarely have discounts.

Sim City is where I will recommend too if u r considering grey lenses but I only buy cheap accessories like filters from there. It's a place like Sim Lim.

I do shopping for camera stuff in HK regularly and I don't recommend buying gray unless u know exactly how to test and are not afraid to create a scene when u r sold a lemon.

HK prices are already low , a good deal is when u buy a quality item at a reasonable price. I wouldn't touch the gray sets as I've HK friends who were sold refurnished sets passed off as BNIB gray sets and I won't ever buy any items at too good to be true prices.

Currently not much stocks there but there's warranty so long as U bring it down to Sony HK to do a warranty conversion.

It's cheaper than SG prices , but it's really because of no GST and how well u can bargain, don't expect anything xtra ordinary coming to A7/R prices :)

If I am not wrong, there is an offer for an extra battery beginning December for the A7 and A7r in Hong Kong.

There is actually part 2 to this thread that has replies.

The information on the shops and what to look out for in the original thread are still relevant imo :)

I go to Echo at Tsim Sha Tsui for my photography needs when I am in HK. The prices there are attractive, and is fairly well stocked. Of course, there are the big boys too. Most offer parallel imports and local sets. I tend to purchase local sets as I get international warranty for my Nikon lens purchases and I think local warranty is worthwhile considering my number of trips to HK. Well, that is, until recently...
