Well, to all that reply, a big thank you to you guys.
Really solve my question.

I'm also planning to get a B+W UV Filter, but not sure which shop have the best deal.
Also in dilemma of whether to get a dry box or dry cabinet.(What brand and size is recommended?)
I won't be keeping lots of lens, the most i think around 3 lens.
Room air-con will be on at night only.

Can anyone advise me on this too?

Thanks a million!!

I am also planning to get the 40D but is thinking of which lens to get:

1. 17-85 IS USM (kit 2 lens)
2. Tamron 17-50 F2.8
3. 17-55 F2.8 IS

Can the seniors here advice and share their experience of these lens on 40D? Thanks.

1) not bad, with IS, not biggest apperture is f/4-5.6
2) good buy, constant f/2.8, good price, weight and size.
3) if budget is not an issue, this is the best amongst the 3. only the weight/size is a little problem here.

Have you consider the new EF-S 17-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS ? Pretty good lens for someone just starting out. Personally i felt the EF 18-85 overpriced. I'd rather top up the difference for a 17-55 F2.8 IS instead of the EF 17-85.

I paid $63 at Cathay for a B+W UV Filter 67mm. Please post comparisons, thanks!

I say forget the kit lens, get the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 instead, if budget is not a problem then get the Canon 17-55 F2.8 IS... LOL You would appreciate the f2.8 as time goes by, rather than the kit lens f-stop.

got a 40D@$1650. comes with extra battery, Lexar 1GB card and a bag.... reaching Singapore from HK tom....

The UOB cardmember deal seems quite good.

Hi, can I ask where you bought the camera at this price? In HK? Thanks.

If my price is correct, Canon 17 to 55 F2.8 is approx 1500 while Tamron is approx 650. So price diff is approx 800. Did Canon price drop?

around there. i think can get the 17-55 for 1400 now? so difference still there. around twice the amt.

Wing Shing at Mongkok. No need to bargain too, it's fixed price.

When I was a beginner I started with 18-55. Chances 55 is just not enough for a medium lens. Personally I'm upgrading to 17-85, which I believe will last for you quite some time before the next upgrade.
