Hi guys,

Planning to get Canon 40D Kit.
Still doing research on where to buy.
There's an IT Fair on 29 Nov.
My question is will the price be cheaper during IT fair?
Is it a better deal to buy during IT Fair?

I've never tried buying during IT fair and I'm not very sure.
Pleae advise me.

Thanks a million in advance.

As a personal preference, I never buy from IT fairs because their many 'freebies' actually result in you paying much more.

Once in awhile there will be a very good deal, but this is rare. Go to reputable dealers such as Cathay Photo, John 3:16, TK Photo.

Occasionally IT shows do provide better prices - not at the show but rather from your usual dealers.

More freebies but not cheaper

depends who is the distributor at IT fair. I only buy from my trusted local supplier. I get more freebies and better pricing and also gets to test and choose my camera.

From what I experienced, canon prices are the same if you are at the show or shop. If you do not want the extra free gifts at the show just mention it to the salesman and make note your mode of payment and they usually can do it for you. Sometimes you do get extra stuff which Canon give out at the show where other shops do not have. :) I bought my 400D at comex 2006 and 40D at commex 2007 at cash prices. :)

Hi,

I'm still wondering around and thinking of getting 40D or 400D? Great to "spot" you as experience in both cameras, can you share with me:-
a) Is 40D really worth the extra $900 in compare to 400D?
b) In general, is the picture quality for 40D so much superior than 400D?
c) How is 40D perform in indoor (in terms of noise without flash) as compare to 400D?
d) Canon compact digital's common problem is high noise at high ISO, how is 400D?

Your frank advise is MUCH APPRECIATED.:)

Definitely, 40D is worth the extra $900. For the better built, the fps and the lower shutter lag. In terms of focusing speed ,it way faster especially in low contrast area where 400D kinda struggle alittle. For picture quality, 40D tends to get more details especially when high ISO is being used. Noise level is very impressive especially if you turn on the High ISO noise reduction in the custom menu in 40D. For your question (d), Canon DSLR are known for their low noise over the last few years. It was the leader in this area until recently Nikon announce their D3 but that's a another story as it has yet to be in the market. :) If you have the budget, I will recommend you to go for the 40D. Go down to Sitex if you want to try it out.

I like to buy from PariSilk, this is at Holland Village opposite the Katong Laksa. Compare price and theirs is the cheapest.

Quality wise, 40D is definitely better. But more important you need to ask yourself if you really need it. I was having difficulty deciding at first. But I bought 40D because I need the 6.5 fps function.

I agree with calebk CanonEOS etc.
Buy from MS, CP, J3:16, TK ...

Do not buy from IT Fairs.

Period.

I am also planning to get the 40D but is thinking of which lens to get:

1. 17-85 IS USM (kit 2 lens)
2. Tamron 17-50 F2.8
3. 17-55 F2.8 IS

Can the seniors here advice and share their experience of these lens on 40D? Thanks.

You can go to vivocity canon showroom to try out both 40D and 400D. They have demo set for you to try out.

Play with it until you get a good feel of both the camera. When you are done, you should be able to decide better.

As for lens, if you have strong wallet power, go for the 17-55 F2.8 IS.

if its ur first dslr like me, i think option 1 n 2 more viable. nvr go wrong with original lenses. after using for awhile, u will know what u want to shoot then move towards that direction.

400D ISO do not have 1/3 stop which means ISO settings are 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600

40D has ISO of 100, 160, 200, 320, 400, 500, 640, 800, 1000, 1250, 1600.

WB in 40D is better than 400D.

If are manual user, 40D's dial control is better

If u have big hands, 40D

I prefer heavier cams cause I can balance the camera better under low speed. Less hand shake. 40D

It is your call

Hi Onewheeler,

I too buy from Parisilk at holland from Kevin. Their 40D price is one of the lowest. but don't buy the filter from them. they overcharged me 200% for the filters, and their filters range are quite little...i feel TK have good range and prices for filters.

Hehe..speaking from experience..thought should inform everyone what each shop is cheapest for each kind of item. There is almost no shop that sells everything cheap. Definitely some are cheaper while others are more expensive.

My preference is TK and MS. John just a little pricier..but service best~

Hope this helps!

:)
