Buying a 30D + 17-85IS lens from Japan

I got a friend who's able to buy the 30D plus 17-85 IS lens for me from Japan. The price is very good compared to Singapore. In Sgp, i believe it's still $2250 for body + $1000 for the lens right? Can someone verify this?

I've already checked that Canon Singapore will honour the Int' warranty for the cam, and that service costs will remain the same as a camera bought locally after it expires.

I'm guessing that the manual will only be in Japanese - which is the only downside to this as far as i can see.

But as this will be my first time buying this from Japan, i'd like to ask all my fellow clubsnappers whether theres anything i'm overlooking on this purchase? Any other factor to consider before i go forward to buy the cam?

You can get the 30D body from Oracle at $2070 I think..

Jaix, you're spot on. Thats the one that my friend found for me. So S$2500 is a good price right?

Have you bought from Japan before. I'm wondering about the battery charger. Since Japan uses a different plug-head, i will need to get an adapter for the charger.

Does anyone know whether the voltage is suitable for Singapore? I'm guess that it should be 110-240v like most electronic products nowadays right? Anyone?

you will need to get a pin adaptor. That is about it and get your friend to change the menu to EN for you.

Are you sure there is international warranty for DSLR like 30D? Only lenses / speedlites have international warranty. You better confirm.

I have personally bought equipment from Japan during my last trip there. Camera bodies have no international warranty, only lenses and accessories like flash have int warranty.

Hmm.... yeah, asked my friend to check if there's warranty. Guess i'll take your word for it since you've bought it from there.

Guess most new cams don't break down within the 1st year right? Someone tell me if i'm mistaken. I guess saving the money might be worth the risk.

break or not break depends on your luck. anything can happen but commonly they show trouble after the 1st year.
