I will like to share with all my bad experience with an irresponsible seller nicknamed "Kadir" or "Abdujl Kadir" recently. The item is a Tokina 80-200 AF ATX 80-200 lens (nikon mount).

I bought the lens after i had inspected the lens, but i did not tried the lens on my Nikon D100 body as our meeting was arranged last minute. After i found out the lens could not function properly on my digital camera body, I called him to ask whether it worked on his Nikon film body (F90) and his reply was "yes". I have emailed and called him again to re-arrange another meeting to verify that the lens was indeed functioning well on his camera bodies.

However, after numerous calls and emails, he did not reply the emails (kad2000@mbox2.singnet.com.sg) nor answer his pager (92004848) or handphone (97518905). I was very upset that the seller seems to have a "guilty" conscience to prove that the lens he sold was in a mint and functional condition.

Thus, i strongly urge buyers to be beware of such irresponsible sellers and test the lens on your camera body. If not, do not buy. In addition, try to seek professional advice when u inspect the item so that you will not suffer a similar fate as me.

regards
Joshua Fong

(PS : the abovementioned seller is selling his Nikon FM2 and CARL ZEISS 120MM 2.8 nikon mount in the forum @ http://www.offstone.com and I urge potential buyers to inspect the goods thoroughly)

I am sorrie to hear that... I believe you have shared with us a very good experience...

maybe he's out of the country temporarily and have no access to the net? have you tried calling from a public phone or number not previously used by yourself?
how long has it been since the deal?

my advice is to bring it down to camera workshop or any other shop that has nikon bodies and try it on.

third-party lenses usually have compatibility problems. but fcan also be re-chipped to work on the latest bodies

very dangerous to make a sweeping statement like that about an individual on a public forum. may get the site in trouble.
just my 2 cents

Agree... Sweeping statements like this are dangerous... You best be sure that he has some ill will to take your money and give you a shoddy product.

You may also want to share a bit more info about the problem... It is a photo forum after all.. A great place to get some help!

Have a look at this. It maybe of some interest..

He bought Tokina Lens not Sigma, historically no compability problem with Tokina on Nikon bodies either 35mm or digital.

No item mentioned for sale or wanted, hence thread moved to Consumers Corner.

Dunno about the other Tokinas, but my 28-70/2.6-2.8 ATX Pro II worked without a problem on a D100 in the shop. Yeah, I have not heard of Tokina problems so far, only Sigma problems. ;p

On the other hand a 50-500 worked fine on that D100 as well...

Sorry to pour cold water on Joshuafong's post but really he only has himself to blame as by his own admission he didn't test the lens.

The real lesson to be learned is to TEST thoroughly any lens regardless of manufacturer and regardless of it being new or used.

Dear all,

I agreed that I was not being prudent enough to test the lens with my D100 camera body in order to elimate the incompatibilty issues and I accept this responsibility. And, if the lens functions on older Nikon film bodies (such as F90 or etc), I am willing to apologise to Kadir for the inconvenience caused and honour my purchase.

I am going to test this lens with my friends' Nikon film bodies or bring to a camera shop for their assessment before i decide my next move. In fact, as I have mentioned earlier, I am only requesting the seller to prove to me that the lens indeed works on his film bodies (and not on my D100).

I bought the lens on 23 Jan (Thurs) evening and immediately called him to rearrange a meeting when this incident occurred. However, the seller mentioned that he had to work overtime on Fri and attend wedding dinners on Sat and Sun and thus, we agreed to contact each other on Mon (27 Jan) to discuss further. But, my numerous effort to contact him todate was in vain. (In fact, the seller has accessed to internet as he replied to the queries of some potential buyers during Tue or Wed)

I am willing to listen to Mr Kadir's explanation in order not to precipitate further accusations and my main objective of posting this thread is to caution potential buyers when they deal with him.

joshua

hey, i understand from offstone forum. joshua paid $230 only for the lens and expect it to work on his D100 .the original deal was $300, so can we say joshua have cheated kadir into parting his lens for $230? he have taken 30 min to inspect the lens and yet claim to be cheated. kadir is thinking of getting legal suite against him. Joshua is worried and have duck in. will joshua swallow his word? to all pls get more about joshua and try to avoid this guy if you are selling you staff.

He so anxious to buy the lens. Actually when he bargained the lens, I do not want to sell to him because other buyer waiting for me. As he so anxious to buy, I pity him and he bought the lens below my price.

I ever used this lens with my F100, F5 and F90X. No problem. It works well.

Hi Nathan;

Would appreciate it if you would allow both party to settle the issue amicably and not make further speculation until the whole issue is resolved between these 2 parties.

Unless you are acting as an official spokes person for either party, else, please refrain from making statements like

so can we say joshua have cheated kadir into parting his lens for $230? he have taken 30 min to inspect the lens and yet claim to be cheated. kadir is thinking of getting legal suite against him. Joshua is worried and have duck in. will joshua swallow his word?

It's not a soap opera.

Thank you.

I have read all your comments and Mr Kadir's explanation. However, I am busy with the CNY visitings and do not have sufficient time to deal with this issue yet.

Nevertheless, I will give everyone an answer after CNY.

regards and happy lunar new year
Joshua

I am busy now thinking how to counter all this. will get back after CNY.

As previously mentioned,

This isn't a game where you need to counter anything at all. As far as i know, this strictly involves 2 parties. Speculation on your part isn't going to help resolve this issue.

Kindly allow both parties involved to settle their issue amicably without any addition interference.

Thank you.

Hmm.. I have a question here...
