Buyers Beware : - Canon5d79 Vietnames PHD Student from NTU

Well, Canon5d79 was defensive from the beginning and refused to listen to my argument that the issue in question here is not whether the lens is working properly or not but, really what was being sold to me is not up to the specifications as described in the original ad post.

no one forces the buyer to buy if he can see the condition is not as advertised. it looks like this is just a simple case of buyer's regret.

storm in a teacup anybody?

The point here is not whether the dust is affecting picture quality or not, but the discrepancy between what was posted and the real thing. Besides the dust, my friend actually found that the screwing mechanism being slightly loose (but still in working condition, though) as well. Being a newbie, I really do not have a feel for what should warrant a 10/10 rating at the point of purchase. The key point here is that what was sold to me should have never warrant a 10/10 condition and "zero dust" claim (after being ascertained by my more professional friend). This is really the key point. From another perspective, there won't even be a post in the first place if seller had posted "some dust but not affecting photo quality" and "8/10 condition according to Clubsnap guidelines".
There isn't anything to complain since you'd agreed to the transaction. Opportunity was given to you to check the lens prior to the transaction. Low light condition wasn't no excuse as you could have simply brought along a torchlight or point the lens at some light source Your professional friend should have advised you more on it before that.

Rating is subjective, and be it newbie or professional, there is bound to have difference in rating a particular item. Guidelines are served as a reference, which is simply impossible to have everyone agree on the same rating for an item.

Again, the main point here is that there is definitely dust inside the lens and seller is claiming "zero dust". The rationale to return the lens is based on the principle that what was being sold was not up to the specifications as described in the original post. I am asking for a return based on this principle, not really based on operability of the lens.
The point is that no matter how certain you are, checks were done, the transaction is over and Canon5d79 has no responsibility unless he has stated a refund in his thread for any unforeseen circumstances.

Besides, I was told by many that Clubsnappers have high integrity and most would give buyer a grace period of 1-3 days to return goods sold should there be any dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, that option was never given to me.
:bsmilie: The person that told you that most probably hasn't trade much in B&S. Most sellers in here don't entertain dissatisfaction issue unless the item fails within the warranty period that was provided by the seller.

Dear Mizunoblackox,

Please confirm the phone number. The one you posted had 9 numbers.
Is the number 81955245 without the 3?

Dear Moderators,

If this is the same number that was brought up, then please take note.
This is the same person as in my previous thread

As per your BnS TnC (http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2738489&postcount=15), this should be a violation.

He claimed to be a vietnamese PHD student in NTU about 1.6m tall ; Hp - 8195 52453. Be careful when you deal with him.

This is true but not all sellers are nice.:)

Not long ago i was buying a lens and being a buyer, i agreed to meet up with the seller near his place, i took 1 hour to travel from my place to his place. Met up and tested the lens on the spot, after testing for like 10 minutes, i said i am not going to buy his lens as the condition it is not as what he has advertised and the performance is not to what i had expected from the price which he is selling the lens. After i rejected him and start to pack up my things, he started to scold me, saying his lens is so good and i do not know how to use it and my photography skills are damn lousy. I said "Thank you" and i left.

Know what? After i got on to the MRT, he called me on my phone twice and scolded me for wasting his time and effort. But to me, looked like i was the one who had wasted 2 hours to go to his place and back home empty handed. This person is still selling things in BnS but i will never go look at his posts again.

Are you saying HSMSigma and Canon5D79 are the same person (or at least using the same mobile no)? That would be quite interesting, wouldn't it?

:bsmilie: That's a little extreme on the seller's side. :bsmilie:

Hi CS Tan,

I posted this on the thread I started.

Dear Mr Moderator,

I've done some leg work and it looks like I've uncovered at least 2 more of his clone accounts.

It does look like its quite coincidental that different people have the same gear for sale.

I pinpointed this piece, the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L USM
4 different adverts

Er... not meaning to by a bit cynical... but I kind of catch no ball here. All I see is four different peoples advertising a 24-70 f2.8L USM lens. And many of the items are actually quite standard for the lens, including hood. Prices varies a bit, but that is kind of expectable, maybe that is the market price for 2nd hand 24-70mm lens... or before they actually put their items on sales, they will do a quick search in CS to see what others are selling and the selling price. This would ensure that they don't put a price too high and so reduce chances for their items being sold off.

The recent post you make saying that Canon5dXX and HSMsigma might be the same person because their mobile is actually the same (if there are no typo in TS or his friends post) then it is kind of suspicious.

As to the other two sellers that was also in your posting, it didn't actually seemed fair if you add them into this. They might be genuine and stuff like that, and unless you receive a PM from them with their mobile number on, it really didn't proof anything.

Looks like sky79 seems to be the same person as indicated by fellow member the other beware thread.

From what I read so far from this thread and a couple of other complain threads, they all seems to be reported using the same mobile number.

Dear rhino123,

I've already found proof that sky79, canon5d79 and HSMSigma is the same person.
If ff240 is not, I sincerely apologise.

btw, I based my findings on the first 4 links. If you notice, the items sold and conditions are the same. Also, if you notice from the 2nd 4 links and the screengrab, the lens have no box, the diction of the postings are very similar. Hardly substantial proof I understand, but I will find more when I have time.

Dear daredevil123,
I've submitted a report to the moderators. Hopefully something will be done about this. I believe my next step might be to gather more feedback from buyers who have dealt with this person, then post a proper warning with his cell number published.

The 3 accounts belong to the same person, and the integrity of the seller to is definately questionable...

Wow...looks like another drama thread...

One simple case led to so much dirt uncovered.

Good CSI skills!!!
