Yeah lor... I look and look and look... No light.. no interest. Definitely need more visits. ;)

haha yeah interesting photo singaconnect. no main subject to shoot, andrew became your subject..

Yesterday was at Night Museum shooting, then a Nikon guy beside me ask me a question.
Your lens (70-200 F4L IS USM) can shoot at so dark meh..?
Then i told him "Oh yes, why not? I bump up ISO to 6400."
lol.. he was shocked, and i giggled abit.
Can't blame him also, he prob doesn't know 70-200 F4L IS USM can focus as fast as 70-200 F2.8L IS USM

Anyway initially tried shooting with flash but realise all the nice bluish lighting became white even though i set flash to minimal.. then i forgo the flash n bump ISO to max since its kinda dim.

??? What has focusing SPEED got to do with low light performance. Its the Aperture he is referring too bah... Nikon use bounce reflective mirror/ Prism for AF. Canon uses Sensor to AF? Higher ISO = Better and faster Focus???

So far Nikon has not made its CMOS part of AF Operations.

Not familiar with Canon.

i think he meant the lens can get the subject focus faster with high iso...compare to some lens, sometimes quite difficult to focus in low light...unless manual focus

since do not have F2.8 lens, using F4 with higher iso quite good in low light.

New knowledge to me... So far I have not try high ISO in low light. At most ISO 800. Must try tonight if high ISO means faster AF. I notice low light ISO 800 AF still slow.

Thanks! ;)

high iso does not mean faster focussing speed. thus ISO has no relevance or what so ever to focusing speed.

the focussing speed is determined by the focussing module in the camera.

Yup. I always thought that was the case. Higher ISO = Faster/ Better Focusing.. does not link lei.

Not sure about the Micro 4/3 systems without the Mirrors though if the sensor plays a role in the AF.

Thanks Chris!;)

Bump ISO only help to allow more light go in, if more light goes in, then subject won't get blurred, of course also slightly easier to focus since more light goes in.
Another factor also Canon trademark USM. Canon lens (70-200mm) have built in USM which helps to focus slightly faster and quieter than those without USM. Not too sure about Nikon, only know Nikon is VR which is equivalent to Canon IS.
So with both function, why can't i shoot in low light since i have double advantage above..
The F/2.8 is only 1 stop advantage in term of exposure and better bokeh.. thats all. But F/2.8 is can only go 3 stop lower shutterspeed, whereas F/4 can go 4 stop lower for Image Stabilising.

I think you need to read up on SLR Construction.... Do you know what is a shutter curtain? I think there is a mirror up function for 5D. You know what is that for? I think 5D not a PnS... Unless you telling me you are shooting live mode most of the time where your 'senor' will measure the light...

There is a science behind f/2.8 lens which I still advocate that if you can afford it. Buy it. There is more to it than just shutter speed advantage. Think low light, DOF, Vignett and HFD.

Anyways... do you know what f/0.98, f/1, f/1.2, f/2.8...... f/32.... represents??? How does this translate to lens construction and why Olympus can make a 70~200mm (135 equivi) f/2 zoom lens....

Happy researching.

Anyone interested to shoot sports? ie skateboarders @ Skatepark???
