dpreview is a good place to start... since you've been there, good to go to their Learn section too... http://www.dpreview.com/learn/
You'll see the basics you'll need to know there.
Enjoy the cam! I've been happily snapping my new baby (D70s) at my new baby (newborn baby boy) ;)

Stop replying mesg here and start getting out the D70s and shoot.
At least digital you can just shoot like nobody's business, don't have to consider the processing fees like before...
Good luck~

Yeah... shoot like siao, then shutter DIE because you reach it's 50k "lifespan."

hehehe..

no la.CHOI!! (touch wood)

Though it's digital, don't forget the essential basics of photography hor, which trigger happy ppl often neglect... :sweatsm:

Its 150k,but what happens after 150k if it spoils?

150K is for D2 series, there was no hard documentation of 50 or 150K for D70/D70S.

then what happen after its lifespan?servicing?

That's not a lifespan count.

It's the estimate count of shots before they deem it to not be as accurate as before, maybe by split seconds, 1/500s gets fired as if it's 1/490s.

It doesn't mean the shutter will go kaput, piak and pik-chia once it crosses over the count.

Shutter replacement is also much much much cheaper than sensor replacement.

can someone explain to me what is fine wb tuning?i read still dont understand.

Maybe u ought to join up the many casual photo shoot outings and ask one of the old birds who is familiar with your cam to show u the ropes. That should bring u up to speed on the fundamentals.

WB is calculated in Kelvins.

Fine tuning means to adjust it more accurately that's all. Camera's WB is set to certain values like 4500K, 5000K 6500K etc. Fine tuning is just to set it to different stops between each other. Like 4800K, 4900K etc.

actually... i think newbies should do research before buying anything including cams. i research for about a yr before buying my nikon D70 though.

but that aside, all i can advise you is to read the basic handling, then bring your cam out and crash and burn. its the only way to learn. the first time i did that, which was a really bad experience, was very fruitful.

got to the zoo and then try to shoot. it may be hard to look through the vierfinder at first but will get used to it de. but not for too long after end up like my fren kena eye muscle cram.

he eyes were vibrating after even it is closed tight. hiaz

anyway don bother too much about the nitty gritty details.

actuall the package u should have gotten should be a card, a flash and tripod.

this is suffice for ur first few months of settling down , unless u got extra cash to buy lenses la.

chew on it !! haha

err ... imo, dun need flash first ...

get the body, kit lens, cf card, bag

after that slowly add tele zoom, flash, tripod...

i notice there is a black spot when i look inside the view finder.
i took out the lens, and clean the mirror inside, but it doesnt go off.there is also a crack,i think its internal 1,how arh?

wah... you dare to touch the internal stuff? :o

nono,i tried outer,but cant clean,confirm internal

Don't ever touch the focusing screen with any hard objects.
I scratched mine when the tip of my blower touched the screen.
When I looked thru the viewfinder, it showed the scratch as one big black line.
Had a speck of dust on the inside as well.
Like yours, it appeared as a black dot looking thru the viewfinder.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but I did take the focus screen off using a small screwdriver (the type which is used to repair watches), pulling the metal hook that holds the screen towards the mirror, gently.
A few pumps of the blower managed to get rid of the dust.
But putting it all back together was very tricky as you could get the screen scratched or get more dust in.

I don't know how you get yours cracked but since your camera is still new I'd advise you to send it to Nikon.
Make full use of the warranty while it lasts.
