Hiee....

What makes you think breast feeding always shows breast and breast feeding photo must show breast??.......Have you seen people breast feeding in public. Wake up lah.......

In cases where mum's milk is not easily extracted....or mum's busy, sometimes expressing milk by pump is a solution. Well....taking a photo of the breast pump may be okay too....

Breast feeding is the first priority for your child.......not until i have a kid myself and i realize how important breast-feeding was for a baby....

rgds,
sulhan

Ever heard of the term "discreet breastfeeding"? Breastfeeding if done discreetly will not reveal any part of the breast at all. It simply looks like a baby resting against the mother's chest! ;) All these just goes to show how uninformed & how ignorant S'poreans are!

If u men can oogle at bikini-clad girls at the beach or skimpily dressed girls on the streets and find them "okay", what's wrong with a woman breastfeeding her child in public? I don't think they would reveal more flesh than those examples I quoted above! What's more, this is an indication of a mother's devotion and unconditional love for her child.

And there goes the objective of the competition, not to offer attractive cash prizes, but to create awareness of this womanly art of breastfeeding! :cheergal:

hey guys,

it's a very intimate thing between the mother and the child. It's also a way where a mother bonds with the child. The moment, if it can be captured is priceless. :)

Well Said

Fully agree with you...we should not make fun of breast feeding!

However, I personally think that this competition might not be a good idea to be used to promote or rather, it should be targeted to moms rather then photographers (i presume 75% consist of guys). As you know, most people participate in competition becos of prizes/fame...etc...(not all people of cos, but generally)
The prizes already like "that", 1st step to encourage photographers has already failed. and then again, if we are keen to take, I dont think our wife would agree with it too...<i mean most of the wife again...not to all.....

Lastly, it will lose the point of promoting breastfeeding if we are going to take photos which looks like a baby resting against the mother's chest!

last lastly, try taking a breast pump and see for yourself, you did not include the bond between mom and baby....
:nono:

Whilst the organisers' intention is to promote breastfeeding, raise awareness and spread the message that 'breast milk is best milk' - perhaps some creativity can be used when shooting? If a photographer can capture the emotions and bond between mother and baby without causing the mommy to feel shy or embarrassed at all with the photo, then I think you would have succeeded!

Finally, let's respect breastfeeding mommies, it takes a lot of perseverence to succeed in breastfeeding. Mommies who overcome stares and all the inconveniences willingly do it for their love of their baby. Nothing else.

Bottle feeding mothers will have no idea how convenient it is to breast feed! And I am not even mentioning the benefits of mother's milk. To start off, less bottle washing and sterilising, much lower cost in milk powder (you start paying 6 to 12 months later) and no need to lug bags of bottles, hot water, bibs etc. Wow, God's gift to us! My two children are breast fed, and my wife can nurse in public (quite discrete, you'll probably not notice).

Although I am not so open minded as to accept public nudity, I am very open to the natural feeding of a child. Men have been topless for quite some time now...

Hi yowch
Agree with u! The inconveniences I mentioned for eg, are 'leaks', expressing when mommies go back to work, storing and thawing expressed breastmilk, engorgement for some, etc etc... But yes, the benefits for the baby outweigh all these! :)

Bfg is a norm in many other countries, but locally it's considered a taboo to see a mum nursing in public. When I travel to places like M'sia, Thailand, Australia etc, women just lift up their blouses to bf, disregarding the fact whether they are exposing themselves, whether strangers are staring at them etc. They know they are nurturing their babies, so heck lah!

There's simply not much support here, guess formula milk companies are too aggressive in their marketing campaigns! Formula milk companies can go on & on to make claims that their products contain DHA blah blah blah, but one thing is for sure...the best formula milk in the world can never replace the real nutrients produced in breastmilk! My point is, why go for artificial milk when all a child need is found in a mother's milk? JMO, no offence to those whose kids are on formula milk!

If you notice, there are more & more support groups being formed to promote bfg in S'pore etc BMSG, La Leche League etc. Has anyone seen media coverage of activities for the World Breastfeeding Week over the past few years? Don't you think those bfg mums look so gracious & elite nursing their little ones? :)

Wait for Mrs Wu Li Lin(Wong Li Lin) to advance her pregnancy and pose for us. Jokes aside, any willing lactating mothers from the group to pose for CSers? After all, they were very vocal in promoting their cause. CSers are willing to support their cause.

Actually, that's not quite what I think. I'm the most anti-baby person amongst my friends. Babies are not cute, they are irritating manufacturers of inappropriately expressed body fluids. I would not patronize a restaurant that allows people to bring their babies and children in because I do not want my quiet dinner interrupted by someone else's kids screaming. If someone's kid starts making noise in a cinema, I tell the parent to take the kid outside and gaffer tape his mouth or something.

This plague of baby-making should be discouraged - as if the world is not overpopulated as it is. It is too easy to get a baby - anyone can go and do it. Not being a good parent is the surest way to ruin someone's whole life (and other people's lives too, if your kid turns out to be a criminal). If you need a degree to practice medicine or law, which has less potential to screw up someone's life than if you have a baby, why not make it compulsory to pass a parenting course otherwise you will get a forced abortion (or if the baby is born) taken into state care? People who have no income should not be allowed to have babies.

I suppose I will get the predictable SHOCK HORROR WHAT AN AWFUL THING TO SAY response from a few CS'ers, but I am prepared to defend my anti-baby view at any time and any place ;)

For the record, just let me be the first one to agree with a part of your comment. Yes, this world is OVER-POPULATED enough! Couples should not be encouraged to have babies SIMPLY becos there is a lack of local citizens to SUSTAIN OUR ECONOMY!! What kind of SELFISH campaign is this? Think of the thousands of starving human beings elsewhere on the planet...think of the crowd you have to squeeze with every morning on the trains, buses, the traffic jams...think of why you cannot find a seat in the food court everytime you need to have a simple meal. Aren't the crowd in our country huge enough already? Then why are our leaders panicky about shortage of local citizens in future? Very simply because they need voters to keep them in power & hardworking workers who will make money that can be pumped back (taxes & bills) into the country's economy, so the those already rich & in power can remain that way lah!

Also, for the love of god, have children only if you know that you will truly love them enough & have the capacity to bring & nuture them properly to become civilised humans so as not to cause further distress to the rest of the people living on this planet!

(Certainly, I do not agree with the forced abortion stuff... a little too extreme already.)

A baby - but I had no choice in it, and fortunately I grew out of it.

I'm not a father; no where near being one either.

I'm just rather appalled by the response in this thread in which most seem to have a take on breast-feeding as some form of soft porn...

Like some have mentioned, breast-feeding is a very intimate bonding session between the mother and child... Being able to capture that moment is priceless! What's with all the nipple talk nonsense?

I don't understand how some of you can find it funny in the first place...

You wanna squeeze some nips, go find a cow...

I am father of two, and wants to have six.

Cute means ugly but adorable, cute does not mean pretty. With that, I agree with you.

It is actually very irritating to have screaming children in a restaurant. I discipline my children not to disturb others. I do avoid posh and 'high class' places out of respect for others. I will not bring my children to the cinema until they are able to sit through the whole movie with nothing more than one toilet trip and some whispers, I suspect maybe in a few years' time when they are four to five in age.

Over population in the wrong places, and discrimination and racism prevents the 'redistribution' of people. In any case, most people believe that they are born with 'rights' and 'inheritance' and those who are in poverty are just not worth living. These people talk of over population, and sending 'world aid' but will not let a beggar into their home. Parenting course is good. Compulsary? Not necessary, you can practice law or medicine without degree, too. Print a name card, dress smart and tell everyone that you're a lawyer! It's the outlook that counts! Force abortion? That's murder. There are welfare states that take care of those without income! Some think that this is a stupid idea, so public schools have to charge high fees. And then, we raise funds for kidney-problem people organised by the 'boss' (isn't that charity and welfare?)!

I believe that you are not anti-baby, but not ready for the responsibility of parenthood. Some people never reach that state of being ready for parenthood - that's just individuality. At least, you are aware of your 'condition'.
