BP511 charge

hi,all:

I bought a Canon BP-511 3rd party battary(1800 mah) and the universal charger from AP. But when I charge the battary for only 1 hour, the led indicated that the battary was ready. Is it normal?

Suggest that you bring it back to the shop that sell you those items...

The BP-511 charges very quickly for me. One hour or less. One of the things I like about it.

1800 mAh? What brand is it? How much is it?

You can calculate. It's simple mathematics.
If the battery is rated at 1800mAH 7.4V, then the total power to fully charge it is 1.8x7.4= 13.32 W. If you say that the battery is ready charged in 1 hour, that means the charger must be capable of supplying at least a 13.32 VA DC output. Now look at the label on your charger. Does the OUTPUT says "xV DC yA", where x * y >= 13.32?

What brand is that and how much did you pay for it? There are a couple of threads that says AP sells 3rd party BP-511s for around $30, anyone can confirm the capacity of this one? Thanks.

I think I have two of those Magapowers; they are rated at 1250 mAh.

my battary has no brand, in the purple box. It marked with "1800mah,7,4v", got it from the shop at 2nd floor, next to NAB or sth, 40$

There's no brand but it comes in a purple box with the letters "DVD Video" or something. (now not at home so cannot check :embrass: ) Will cfm when I get back. And yes, its rated at 1800 mAh. Got it from a ground floor shop at SLS selling lots of video cams one. Bought it for abt $40++.

I need to buy too cause my original Canon BP511 1100mah and Megapower BP511 1200mh are both dead. I don't know what happened to them . I own a Canon G1 , now nearly to 3 yrs. I bought the Megapower 1 and a half yrs ago. Does it reach its endlife. Please let me know where to get the reasonable price for this BP511. Thanks.

i got a 3rd party 2600mah BP-511 battery at $52 for my G3 in Sim lim tower. Need about 4-5 hours to charge on the universal charger bought from AP. Powerful battery, cos' took about 400-450 pictures with it before it died and the original 1100mah battery only lasted me about 60-70 pictures...

If you read the charging instructions carefully it is written that red light will indicate full charge in approx. 1 hr. But you need to cont. charging for 1 more hour for full charge.

Noir, i bought it from a shop called world audio something on the 1st floor of sim lim tower. look for a guy called tung. he can give u this price with GST ($52). remember to push price down as much as u can...
