My mum was so happy when she started talking about an boatman shaped ice cream that she had at Marina Mandarin when she was young. The look on her face made me want to fufill her wish of eating it again since she seemed so down these few days. However, i have no information of it!:dunno: according to her, the ice cream was placed in a boat shaped bowl and that the ice cream is stacked above one another to form a person shape. then two chocolate stick is stuck into the ice cream to resemble the oats for the boat. anybody saw it before??

It might be worth the effort to go the Marina Mandarin to check it out. Does she remember which restaurant was it?

Why don't you just make one for her since you already have an idea in mind of what this boatman shaped ice cream resembles.

You could get an ice cream parlor to do this custom-made. The most difficult part may be finding the exact boat-shaped bowl.

Alternatively, write to the PR department of the Hotel, or better yet, make an appointment and go down yourself. See if the PR dept can ask if any of the patisseries/cold kitchen staff remember the 'boat-shaped' bowl and 'human-figure'. Draw a rough drawing to see if it helps.

Or Google/flickr/p base any boat-shaped ice cream / man shaped as ice cream in boat-shape bowl etc etc etc and see if anything triggers her memories.

It's a great thing that you want to do this for your Mother, especially when she's down. :)

Haha,
That just crossed my mind too. Maybe Mandarin at Orchard Road. The old Cafe was pretty innovative.
