Hi all,
I have the same concern of camera falling off due to RS-4 equipment failure. So from the very 1st day RS-4 was hooked up with the camera, a cheapo fail-safe was added ; SAF-Style!

Don't know how to post pic 'live' here. So you got to check out the link :

<a href="http://speedjpop.multiply.com/photos/album/21/Interesting_Pics#13"><img border="0" src="http://multiply.com/mu/speedjpop/image/1/photos/21/500x500/13/RS4-Sling-Failsafe-Mod.jpg?et=BKEKgprFMvfTcfKoaX5WSA&nmid=243158735"></a>

If you guys find it familiar, it's because it's THE small black rope used to secure equipment on SAF webbings. Think it's SGD$1/- each.

Total max weight was a 500D + EFS 18-200mm lens + Batt-loaded 430EX Mk2 + 1 x Spare camera batt and 1 x Spare SD card in sling small compartment.

Been using for abt 6mths. So far So good <Touching wood!!>.

My only frustration is that the shoulder pad doesn't always stay in place -> On the shoulder. Almost every time I 'quick-draw' the camera, it will go out of place.

Anyone not facing this problem or has a good-fix??

heehee..

For those who wanna do this...

Get a used Crumpler strap from http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=119
Got mine for a cheapo price of $15..

Get it cheap though...cos u gonna cut the 2 straps and use the hook at Beach road.
Cost of cutting/modding/buying of good hook etc...$4..

referring to daredevil123 and ZerocoolAstra's posts i think you might want to attach the black string to the rectangular hoop, instead of the carabiner, since the whole carabiner would come loose once the screw gives way

Thanks to this thread, I've thought about creating a failsafe mechanism for my RS4 as well.

The purpose of this is just to temporarily hold my gear long enough for me to notice that the sling broke.

So far it can carry my 7D+grip and 24-105L. Notice that I have a handstrap. Otherwise, I would've connected it to the BG clip.

It's great to see all the different failsafe everyone has come up with. I am going to work in a newer version of the failsafe, since my cord is getting frayed and worn out after repeated usage and abrasion.

alux0417, your version looks cool, I might make one similar to yours!

Looks cool! Well done Hinata.

Another way to make a similar strap, is to actually use the original idea that gave Black Rapid the idea in the first place.

;) Thanks. Btw, that strap I am using came from a cheap PnS digital camera case (~$12) I got from Challenger. You can probably find a cheaper one for the strap only.

Actually I have a ton of spare straps... ;) Thanks for the heads up though. ;)

This is what I did with mine:

I find the FR-3 holding real tight especially after wetting it with water, so I decided to just loop the carabiner around the CR-2 and R-strap instead of the usual string/carabiner combo through the camera eyelet and R-Strap.

Oh yeah, for those who are planning to get the FR-T1, read this first:

http://www.blackrapid.com/buzz/announcements/fr-t1-update/
As of November 18, 2010 (just a little over 2 months ago).

It's $35 at CP. Very ex for something so small, so don't just buy and go. Bring your Manfrottos and test the item first before committing. It is sealed so we have to ask nicely if we can test. :)
