I suggest u try this, i just shot a roll on my MP yesterday. (virgin film shoot on RF..) 15 frame on f1.4 and another 15 on f2, only slight adjustment on shutter speed, under same lightings on a same subject. Hope that tells me how much my camera meter & my judgement is on or off, I will have to wait for the printouts thou.. back to waiting days..

To test exposure best done with slide film. If using film, analyse the density of negative directly cos lab will compensate for exposure when printing.

I have very inconsistent exposure due to my over reliance of AE on my M8.2. Some pics are out of focus with wrong metering even though some were taken at the same place.

Anyone can advise on how to be consistent ?

One answer is to make a substitute reading off the palm of your hand, providing that your hand is illuminated by the same light as your subject, then use a lens opening 1 stop larger than the meter indicates. For example, if the reading off your hand is f/16, open up one stop to f/11 to get the correct exposure. The exposure increase is necessary because the meter overreacts to the brightness of your palm which is about twice as bright as an average subject. When you take the reading, be sure that the lighting on your palm is the same as on the subject. Don't shade your palm.

Try this and see if this works for you. It should work in conditions where you can't figure out the setting to use.

Hi Redshutter, sorry a bit off topic. I was reading the comments on the ambient light metering mention below and have been googling whole day on this topic. It seems to be the same meter as m6 no? Its reflected light off the white dot TTL meter like the other Ms or is it something different. I do know that it meters in lower light.


Hi Megkris, sorry back on topic. I think metering is certainly a starting point but matching the LEDs wont get you that far off as film exposure latitude is large. Could it be the developing? The second photo is nice!

the meter on the MP is ambient light metering... by guesstimating from what you see with your eye, in general if there are not facing any form of strong light source in the direction of where you are shooting, exposure should be spot on.

Thanks for the tip gommy, on second thought, i will not print, iill go buy scan a scanner when i have the time. Will not try slide now, dont know if i will like shooting film. Thanks again.
