When compose the photo, look for a darker background, shoot at f/8 and below using fill flash and second curtain sync

very nice indeed! the 2nd shot has a nice composition and nice pose by the bird, but regretfully some parts of it are underexposed. But still I think the effect is pretty good and it's still a great photo nonetheless!
 

The 2nd pic has 2 bright spots that are distracting on the top left and right corner too. But I still like it, because it captures the moment when then the bird is spreading it's wing... and composition is nice too.
