Nikon Cameras MUST be used, no mention about lens.

nikon's free picture project software can show the type of lens used, but not the brand, if you did not intentionally remove your exif.

it can show, for instance the lens used is: 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 , but not the brand (whether it is a nikkor or sigma) of the lens used.

i don't think that lens brands are coded into the exif? only the focal length and aperture details right?

The Nikon makernotes in the Exif stores things like lensidnumber, lensfstops, minfocallength, maxfocallength, maxapertureatminfocallength, maxapertureatmaxfocallength, something called MCUType and Lenstype. Using this combination of information you can determine the lens used (even third party ones) - one such program, exiftool, uses this information to do a lookup of an internal table to determine the lens used.

Edit- provided a CPU lens was used.

Just flipping through the results last year in the Focus magazine, I found that all the winners, including the consolation prices were using Nikon lenses...

Nikon may say that it is not a prerequisite for participating, but, for winning..hmmm not proven yet. I would like to see a winner using a non Nikon lens this year ...
