Please be cautious when dealing in B&S, especially so when one cannot meet with buyer/s and transaction is wired before collection of goods.

This case is one example http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=564576 (please see the profile of the scammer where he/she even participated in some discussion and comments like " Paypal only because had bad expe before.
Will send courier 24-48hr" )

"oldcodger" has been de-registered and members are encouraged to report any suspicious scammers

Feel sorry for that person who kena scammed...

Yeah, these are scammers who refuse to meet up. They will just ask you to send $$ through paypal or Moneygram. You will never receive the goods. Buyers beware.

I see quite a few in B&S for unbelievable prices these days..Could they be a scam too?

His post is still there alive in B&S dude..Doesn't the price itself tell you something?

well it's yes and no,

what if it's real?

let's give them the benefit of the doubt

when contacting them we will know their true identity.

again, caveat emptor!

let the buyer beware, so cs-er please,

keep your eye open for scammers like them.

If it's too good to be true..it is IMHO..

As ClubSnap B&S does not have a transaction system, I would not even bother to buy from oversea seller as there is no way to track.

Also scammer sales site seemed to like Western Union for payment transfer. Just be more suspicious when buying.

but why is post count such an issue. there may be some old timers who have never been on CS, found out they can sell their stuff here, register the account only when they wanted to sell their items.

i think its unfair to discriminate just because someone has a low post count.

I am the victim of the scammer of "oldcodger". Believed him and paid $850 for A-700 through paypal. I am aware of the paypal buyer protection scheme and file a dispute/claim against the seller, still no response from paypal yet. Anyone has experience with paypal before? How large is the chance I can get my money back?

Is the seller abroad or in Singapore? How much time passed between buying and registering the dispute? Chances are good if everything is in good order as paypal should suspend the seller account until pending disputes are settled. My experience with paypal is very positive, that is why they are as big and trusted as they are. Best of luck.

I had one experience with paypal on claim. Once the money left paypal to the seller, that's not much they can do (or willing to? I'm not sure). But that's before ebay acquired them, not sure about now.

sorry but single digit post count ppl, normally i don't deal with them...

Then at least look how long they have been a member..I'm not against the newbies posting in B&S. But do note that there are many forums which require a certain post count to post in Marketplace section.

The mods should be able to trace if that scammer (who only accepts paypal) is originated from UK from his IP address.

Like what geekbrains mentioned, if it's too good to be true, IT IS too good to be true. Don't commit your hard-earned $$ if you have doubts.

The series of recent "too good to be true" sellers are all registered in Aug 09. Could belong to the same person (or group of persons), posting all these WTS threads to lead up to his scamming objective.

So when can we or can't we speculate on a scam? On another relevant thread, a moderative decision was made that we cannot speculate if there are no facts, just because an advertisement seems suspicious.

IF scam or suspicious - report.

You in the first place got the cheek to demand that seller (in the kopitiam), even after he response, to list whom he sells to. Who do you think you are, to demand that? You were not even involve in any of the transaction.

Anyway this thread is to issue a warning of the scammer "oldcodger" and also to inform members to be cautious.

Do not come in with speculation and OT.

Anymore OT here I will infract or even suspend you. :nono:

I have a suggestion. I do sometimes come across sale threads which either have items that have no relevance to photography or the asking prices look too good to be true. However, I do not quite know who I should report the thread to. How about some option button to report suspicious sale threads to the moderators?
