Beware of becoming a Direct Subscriber of Spore Press Holdings for your newspapers

Yes, those yahoo comments might not make much sense, especially if we can only accept only 1 way of looking at things. Who needs sony, ricoh, pentax, olympus if we aleady have canon and nikon????!

Ah ? Your last sentence was trying to imply ?

Just stating that choices and differences in opinion exists in our photography hobby and also in many part of our lives.

however, in our opinion and thoughts on national, social and political issues, the government owned media wants us to see things in a certain way that is in line with their objectives. Basically, we cannot disagree without being branded anti-establishment.

Anyone disagree ? will be interesting to hear all your opinions !

Just see what SPH's AsiaOne and Wanbao done to mar Nicole's reputation? Unbecoming of them!

I was hoping maybe ST do a piece like - expose the truth type on Michael Palmer or even the CID chief, maybe can arrest the decline in readership

Subject has gone off track from

whether it is good to be a direct subscriber of SPH newspapers

to

whether ST is a good newspaper

and even talk about Sumiko Tan.

Are people still reading her stuff? She was never reputed for her intellectual prowess. Newspapers have deadlines to meet. Newspaper writers have to grind out the stuff like a sausage factory every few days. Cannot realistically have high expectations.

Sometimes they need some article to fill in the empty space on a page if there are insufficient demand for advertising space.

If u observe closely, most of the comments give no credible reply but are along the lines of "lousy government" or calling for someone's head or even blaming an event that happened elsewhere in the world on our government or locals. So how can most of their opinions be counted as factual or on-tangent?

Sausage factory is probably a good analogy. Chemicals and preservatives are used extensively to make a sausage, leading the regular consumption of sausages to all kinda of cancer and diseases.

regular consumption of ST will lead to all kinds of conditions -
Gullible
Lazyness
Unable to have critical thinking
accepting any explanation

And eventually leading to a decaying brain, the best condition to be manipulated and managed.

Let's take things from a slightly different perspective.

SPH's not really run by idiots. They of course do know they do run propagandist stories but then this is simply part of their duties being a nationally sanctioned paper.

I've friends who r journalists in there, its a pretty much known fact sometimes its a inner battle between being a professional journalist or being a good employee.

With so much alternative media throwing waste on the govt and in a rush to take on the role of the co-driver, you kinda do need SPH in a cruel twist of irony as a counter-balance.

Even in court for the worst type of offenders with hundreds of incriminating evidence stacked against him/her, the person is still given a chance to speak up (ok, we know this isn't always true in little red dot).

I do still read ST to see how they argue (though vainly) at times how certain parties are doing a great job. The manipulation of statistics is oh wow, an art in itself. The editors etc do understand obviously that readers will be enlightened enough to seek alternative views which is so readily available.

anyway... this thread is digressing le.

We know where to seek news sources, but our parents who help build up this country and who trusted the leaders still think what they read in ST is the only truth.

We can afford to buy EM1 and D610 and 5d3, does not mean it is also affordable to others.

My point is - there are many many people out there who might not be in our same position and we can do our part to spread the truth ...,:)

Then what you're saying is that the same can be said of any news source.

So can we say that you lack critical thinking?

Also, reading alternative media could produce an illiterate effect such as when you spell “laziness" as “lazyness" :bsmilie:

SPH coverage of Nicole is sensational !!! Trending towards TNP and daily mail territory. Maybe it is their strategy to gain some readers and to squash the opposition before 2016

They say sorely olaydi

You kill someone and then say sorry ? The damage was already done, that's what the sole purpose of the article , political murder !! Sorry, your sorry was not accepted !!!

It's just another day at the office for these SPH executives. They need to do a job to help keep these highly paid ministers still having a job beyond 2016. if you can't win people over, than squash the opposition.

I am sure there will be more of these soon leading to next GE.

Yup.
I don't read news except for Bloomberg (even then, rarely).

Otherwise - Market News International.

So the other “news" outlets who just got away with a sorry after posting incorrect and possibly damaging articles are justified?

even Hitler and Stalin has supporters , once brainwashed, hard to see reality

You shall be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
