i don't know about the others, but i never got the impression he advocated "better equip equals better pics". i was wondering how that impression was formed myself.
afaik, he has never tried to refute my points about self esteem. (otherwise wat ckiang brillantly puts as "inferior equipment complex")
if he feels he has been wrongly perceived, he should rightfully point it out. Instead, he chose to ignore that, and then equate the discussion to his own equipment. His own words:

if the discussion's intent was indeed better equipment not equal to better pics, then why bash others for buying new stuff, and then bring in this little bit about his inability to catch up?
other forum? which one? isn't clubsnap the ONLY game in town? ;p
if the other core team members and moderators see my postings as being unbefitting of a moderator / CTM, i will gladly relinquish those positions / priviledges. One certainly doesn't need to be a CTM / moderator to join in these forums, express opinions, post pictures etc......and certainly one doesn't need to be one to enjoy photography!
however, i stand by my opinions.

wat u said is fair; however, wat he typed is invariably a reflection of his true self, unless of course he's really trying to stir things up here and pretending to be a brat here.
seeing as how langzi has suggested coming to a conclusion through a friendly discussion of the topic, (and my "yes" reply to him) i shall stop making inferences to his (possibly past) attitude - that includes the occasional sacarsm in other threads.
this will be my last post dealing with his behaviour.

does anyone thinks that having better equip will help them take better pics? when i say better equip, i mean by purchase of expensive filters that they may seldom use and powerful lens like 600 f4.
if not, does anyone thinks that a perosn can just survive on the current equip they have and take better pics?

if the debate is really on equipment.......
i would feel that a better equipment gives better picture.
If the same photographer is used. besides there are so many different schools of tots.
Each person's opinion of "nice" "good" "wonderful" cant be quantified also......
My "wonderful" might be oni some other guys "good".....
And once the main "control" in the experiment is changed, the photographer in this case......isnt the whole experiment erm not fair?
Its as good as say give erm some professional sprinter a pair of normal track shoes and a normal person a pair of sprinting shoes,
Would the normal man outrun the professional sprinter ?
On the other hand, if we were to take another way of comparison,
Would a professional beat his time which he clocked with that normal pair on track shoes with his sprinting shoes, if all things equal?
i think there are some people who upgrade their photography gear like they do for they computer I.T stuff....they somehow give me the mentality that the better gears they used, it helps to achieve better pics.
No doubt maybe there might be really improvements....but maybe not to the extend of justifying the extra monies spent. (Of cos they probably wun feel the same or wun say it out in such a case)
Well, isn;t it all up to the end user who wishes to buy what they want? Although, some may feel the equipment could have been put to better use....

I"ve been into this hobby a relatively short time, only about half a year so can't give insightful views, but one thing I noticed is one view (ok lah my own view lah) for acquiring new equipement could be that you have in mind (either from other pple's pics or your own creative imagination) your own idea of what kind of pics you want to achieve, for eg you want to take brilliantly clear close ups of insects, or say soft protraits of your own family members. And THEN you hunt for equipment upgrade to help you achieve that. I think if that's so then its justified to buy expensive stuff (tho I can't bear to) cuz its like a painter who wants to buy expensive paints which can give him the brilliant vibrant colours to reflect what he sees in his mind.
with that in mind, who cares what equipment you have? cuz then watever equipment you have becomes a personal thing, what I see in my mind and feel I need watever equipment to show it in photos is prob diff from the next fella. one pt of irony I would like to raise is how commercialism and slick advertising helps to convince pple that you NEED the company's stuff to excel as a photographer. But in my surfings on the web and readings of books, I found that some pros actually take delight in finding 2nd hand lens in not so mint conditions cuz they then have their own "personality" and give unique pics which the pros like, for instance some old lens give softer images. PLUS the pinhole camera interest where some pros use them to give really unique grainy soft pics full of character, yet these old lens and pinhole cams are hardly "latest expensive hi-tech equipment".
In short, I think to compare one's own expensive equipment with another person's is ok if its nuthing more than a fun kids kind of delight. kind of what techno geeks (no offense intended, anyhoe I am one too) indulge in. like when you tell your frens that you just upgraded your computer and now its blah super fast, lots of RAM etc. there's no ego involved just delight in comparing I guess. Like I like to tell my khakis about my latest lens or filter too. BUT what I think is wrong is to take it to mean your own skills are therefore improved, anyway mine sure as hell hasn't improved much! heh..... but like I said it's all part of the hobby to try out new equipment and gadgets.
For me I have new stuff (very few and relatively cheap cuz can't afford, still studying) that I haven't mastered at all. but that's part of the fun in the hobby for me to try out my new stuff and see how I can maximise it to achieve images I want. like after buying my 50mm I was happy i was one step closer to achieving my dreams of having nice portraits cuz my original lens aren't sharp enuff nor fast enuff.

Hi all, this is an interesting topic, and one that could get out of hand easily too (as seen earlier) but I'm gonna post my opinion anyway (phew)My take on this is:
- AGREE, high-end equipment dont necessarily mean good photos
- AGREE, low-end equipment dont necessarily mean bad photos
- AGREE, some shots are HARD to get with lesser equipments
- AGREE, faster cars dont mean better drivers, but it DOES helps good drivers get even better
- AGREE, some people with lesser equipment *might* envy those with better ones
- but I'd also like to add, some people with better equipment also *might* envy those with lesser equipment but take better photos than they do? :think: hehe
I'm still very itchy to get my hands on a higher megapixel camera with mega zoom functions. I still cant get a sharp photo of that pretty chinese girl in Batam from here (LMAO!) :bsmilie:
