Best Rechargeables for 580EX II?

John 3:16 is selling Eneloops in packs of 4. Can't remember the pricing.

My take on this Eneloop vs Powerex is this:

If you're a heavy flash user who needs fast recycle throughout a long event, go with the Powerex.

If you seldom use flash, but do bring it about and use it when there's a need for it, go with the Eneloops.

Eneloops can take events too. Earlier this year i did an entire day of shooting of 'Spring in the City' with a single set of Eneloops. Flash set to manual and fired on, many with multi-bursts. At the end of the day clocked over 700 shots with still some juice to take some more.

I have 2 types of rechargeables. One is Sanyo Eneloop 2000mAH and the other is GP 2300mAH. Each charge 10hrs and 8hrs respectively, isn't that long enough?

8 and 10 hours is very long to me.. the fastest i had use is Sony 2700 ones, which discharge and charge in appx 6 hours..

i received many gd feedback from sanyo eneloops, most probably i be getting those batteries. =)

If fast charging is really important, a good (and thus expensive) charger is required. The Maha MH-C801D (http://www.mahaenergy.com/store/viewitem.asp?idproduct=407) will fully charge 8 normal cap NIMH batts in 1hr. With high-cap ones like the PowerEx 2700s, it'll be around 1.5hrs according to my experience. However, using this fast charge (it's actually called "normal") mode makes the batts VERY hot and thus can't be very good for their lifespan. Handy for emergencies though.

I still prefer the Powerex 2700. Need fast fast fast flash recharge. For the cheap price of only $15 per 4 pack, I believe that buying a bit more of it wont hurt.

Spoilt just buy more la. hehe

my sony batteries are very hot after chargin.. , how much are the MAHA charger and batteries selling?

I don't know about you guys, but my powerex 2700 was great for the 1st 6 months.. now it's giving me problems, doesn't seem to hold charge as long. *shrug*
Goodness knows why, they die very fast nowadays (usually 3 days), even after reconditioning on the powerex charger and sanyo charger. Conversely my orange Sanyo 2500mah seems to work much better.

Yeah so i always charge my batts overnight. There are batts with speed charging up to 15mins full charge, but i don't trust those.

Yeah....the Eneloops are really great batteries! HOnestly i prefer them over the GP ReCykos.

that is very shady to me.. charge fast discharge fast.. maybe could injure the equipment.. =(

I do not deny that Eneloops are suitable for events too, but the numbers are plainly there; Powerex still has a higher mAh rating and will contribute to a faster (don't know by how much) recycle rate.

It's not abt the battery capacity but according to how fast your flash unit can recharge that contributes to the recycling rate. When i took 'Spring in the City' earlier this year, the recycling rate is practically immediate after doing bursts with manual settings. And that time i was still using my 580EX and not the II.

Eneloop is Made in Japan, Recycko is made in China....

That does affect my decision making and I go for the Eneloop.....

mAH (milli ampere hour) is a measure of the storage capacity and a higher one doesn't contribute to faster recycle rate. A higher mAH will mean the battery can last longer and maintain the same recycle rate (but not increase the rate) for longer period of time.
