Best Rechargeables for 580EX II?

I'd suggest going with the Sanyo Eneloops.
Though I'm a Nikon user with SB-800, I could take nearly 400 shots or more with 5 pieces of it, almost 200 shots on a single day, and the remaining 200 over a period of 1½ months, before I need to use another set and recharge the exhausted ones.
At the least, once recharged, I wouldn't have to worry if the batteries will discharge over time on its own, and be low on power when I needed them. Of course it depends on your habits on recharging, but I find using Eneloop less stressing in a way, particularly if your charger isn't fast enough.

In the old days, I am used SONY rechargable battery for my flash, the problem is that if you use it for some shot and put back to your bag, a few days later, it will not power. I have faced very unhappy day, everyone on site, but my flash does not work. Locky I have standby normal battery. During last IT show in Suntec, I have seen SONY team was there to promote some new type battery, I have told them my story, they strongly recommand the new type. I have get one set from them, so far I am happy. The battery is "Cycleenergy". I have test it after full charge, put in my car for 5 weeks. Once I need it, it still can give me a lot flash. Maybe you can try it?

Nopes, don't need, though they're NiMH.

Yupz, up to a year with 80% charge left.
Recommend u use their own charger, cos other chargers may carry different voltages which may damage the batteries.

i prefer to use same brand charger for same brand battery. safer method.
No probs. When i got a set of 2 Eneloops quite a number of mths ago, was $9.

Only 2. Other places do sell them in 4s, have to do a search.
I have 2 types of rechargeables. One is Sanyo Eneloop 2000mAH and the other is GP 2300mAH. Each charge 10hrs and 8hrs respectively, isn't that long enough?
John 3:16 is selling Eneloops in packs of 4. Can't remember the pricing.
My take on this Eneloop vs Powerex is this:
If you're a heavy flash user who needs fast recycle throughout a long event, go with the Powerex.
If you seldom use flash, but do bring it about and use it when there's a need for it, go with the Eneloops.
