Hard to keep the good quality lenses for under S$1000  .

You actually have a nice good quality lens range from 17-200mm (miss out 18-27mm), I doubt C or N user can get a nice cheap set up like this.

But you may miss out the the short zoom (e.g. 17-35mm for events), long zoom (for birding) and macro? But if you are not into these area, then you are a happy man

your set #1 quality is better than set #2 quality though, but #2 us easier to carry out and a nice set for new startup.
B&S have
1. 24-105 f3.5-4.5 @ $350
2. 100-300 APO @ $460

But you may miss out the the short zoom (e.g. 17-35mm for events), - I got the 17mm tokina at a good price.. 17-35mm if expensive.. have to go with the prime 17mm as for now..

long zoom (for birding) - I have the 75-300mm D lens.. maybe get the tc to do birding..

and macro? - Got myself a 100mm f2.8 minolta macro.. one of my most expensive lens right now. ;)

so you have a nice range of lenses already. Except the short zoom range (I also don't have, looking for one).

Other factors you may want to consider is your shooting style and the type of subject. It's best to have a lens to cover the range most often used for your shooting style. This is to reduce lens changes to a minimum.

From your lens list you can have "24-105mm" instead of "28-135mm" if you need the wide more often than the longer reach.

There is a program out on the internet that can give you a statistics of the focal range you used most often from all the digital photos you have taken. This will give you an idea which focal range will be useful for your shooting style. Can't remember the program name right now, will post the name and link when I find it again. ;)
