Beginners Outing(Part 28)-Sunset at WDLS Waterfront III on the 9 Sept(Photos thread)

OK, guys here are my pics. These r the best among the worst. LOL.

I was using ISO 100, f/10-20 and 30s exposure for these pictures.

1st one is tilted.(Excuse to BBB new tripod:devil:)

2&3 i find them okay:)

CanonInDeez so happy u post some photo to share with us. 1st i not a pro, me also a newbie so we share our knowledge together.

Ur #1 photo horizon is tilted so not so good in landscape photos. #2 & #3 I feel a bit too dark. Maybe because of to much water.

Also when u taking short next time try to ask ur self 3Q.
1) Why are you taking this photo
2) What do you want to say
3) What does the viewer see
(Me also leaning all this). Keep it up! JYJY ;)

Hmmmm............................... sounds deep, but I get what you mean.
I think I have 3 days before the next shoot (at Promontory) to buy a tripod.
Any recommendation? Looking for something cheap, good and most importantly.. LIGHT. :)

Some tips for you.

Light tripod is good for travel but make sure your last leg is not very thin or else believe me. you won't want to extend your last leg as its so thin that it makes it unstable. It will definitely shake at the slightest touch. So when you buy make sure the last leg is never never too thin.

Sirui, Benro, Manfotto are some of the popular brand. Go take a look at each one of them see which you your prefer. Test it on the spot. If you wan I believe Cleon will go on a BBB on Friday afternoon. You could make appointment with him.

Today was my maiden photoshoot outing ;), thanks cleonbus for organizing this wonderful sunset shootout, and all those gurus i spoken to like Freddie, Levin, Darren, Jeffery, Starfruit, Odyssey-Boy and many others.
Time to submit homework.

The problem is...how light is light? To some,800g is heavy but to others,1kg is light. Some factors for you to consider:

Weight
Budget
User friendly

I'll recommend you the Benro A500EX(Since you're quite tall) which costs $188 including a BH-1 ballhead.Or if you mind the weight and price, get the smaller A300EX which costs $158 including a BH-0 ballhead. If you just own a DSLR with kit lens, the ballhead dosen't matter since both can take the load of your gear. You might wanna take a look at this thread for more info:

Anyway Friday afternoon most ppl working lah.But yes,i go to Funan every Fri so you can just come and look for me(No need appt lah). Also consider Vanguard and Velbon. And lastly, don't ever buy Fancier cos you'll change in no time:)

That's all.Comments welcome:)
am kinda perplexed by the general soft-ness and lack of vibrancy in your photos...
if you look at the group photo in page 1, it's almost like it was taken through a fog.

Not sure if it's equipment problem (maybe filter or something), but it's something I would advise you to pay attention to in the future. Since it's a digital camera, it's fairly easy to check sharpness almost immediately.
Things like tilt in photos can also be corrected easily in PP. No point saying that you know about it, then doing nothing. That's like giving up.

Wish you all the best!

Finally I got the time to review my own photo.

Here is my share

#01 - My one and only shot I'm happy with. Especially the calm water and reflection

Go easy with the sunset filter :)
To me, it feels rather gimmicky. The end-result isn't so realistic.
