haha. i'm totally up for that deal. thing is, i don't mind using the camera, but i'm not sure i want to KEEP it. i'll feel kinda, paiseh. but i don't mind trying! up for a cool challenge. (: state terms? like BW, iso what, subject, what you mean by SWEE. hehe.

I have a "BP" Zorki 5 RF camera with that famous Industar lens, collecting dust.

2017183737_8e38ff5156.jpg

If he were a 15-year-young student, I can let him use this set to take 3 rolls and see what he could produce.
If swee (as judged by Chiif), he can keep the cam. Else... he's already got to try RF photography for free. How does that sound?

YOL
Er... don't think I am qualified to be a judge, Xi Fu...

I have a better suggestion...

He can borrow the camera from you, use it and take pictures and post ONE different photo EVERYDAY on this forum for the next 36 days.... If he takes up the challenge and complete posting the 36 photos, then he gets to keep the camera. If there is one day that he doesn't post picture, then it is considered forfeited. The pictures MUST be taken at different places and cannot be replicated. I stress... MUST be from different places, different subjects, can be of the same theme, but MUST be different subjects (if a cat is taken, there cannot be another picture of another cat).

I'll sponsor 3 rolls of Fuji Superia 400 film, he will need to find ways to process and scan the pics to be posted up here.

Wouldn't it be more interesting this way? We will get to see what 15 year olds see and think through the viewfinder... and we get to see different picture everyday... :)

HAHAHA sounds like a good deal! it's like my first assignment, only i don't get paid but what the heck! i'll do it anyway! but, the thing is, if i shoot three rolls, i post up one everyday, i must need buffer time to shoot the first roll right? i can't possible finish the roll in a few hours! (:

You can take 4 days to finish 1st roll, process and scan. If you take more than 4 days to do that, then it's considered forfeited too. Once the 1st frame is posted, then the subsequent 35 days, we must see something different everyday.

If you find that you need more than 3 rolls to produce 36 decent photos, you can do so at your own expense.

Since it is school holidays now, I believe it shouldn't be too difficult to finish one roll in 3 days plus another day to process and scan.

Woah, a challenge!

Take note that film processing takes time. But C41 d/o shouldn't take long, maybe 30minutes. It's the scanning that takes a day unless you pay for express service. Oh, don't try to use B&W film now, unless you d/o yourself!

Hmm, can I do the same for a brand new Bessa then chiif? ;p

Samuel

that seems like a nice challenge... a bit hard but i think manageable for a student on school holiday :)

Heh, Chiif u hv made it more interesting now. It's never my intention to make life difficult for TS. I just wanna see that the RF cam got used extensively in a given time so TS can experience how RF photography is like and whether RF is suitable for him. If he could produce some SWEE (hokkien for "beautiful" or "aesthetic") pictures, then I am happy that Zorki has found its true master. We can work out some details/criteria like interval of posting here for rating, no. of good pix to win, etc. Let's do it in the spirit of fun & learning.

U never know what a Zorki could produce:)

YOL

hmm haha sounds quite challenging. thing is, i might not be able to post consecutively for 36 days. is it okay if i line up 36 shots and get someone to post for the days that i'm not here? but shot will be taken by me and write up written by me also.

and thanks for this opportunity mr YOL. not many shifus in clubsnap treat xiao lian eh like me seriously. (: i will try to piah and come up with swee shots, even though my photog skills are very very very sucky. haha.

maybe you could get ideas from the RF shots in one of the threads here thats what i normally do.. even though my shots sucks badly :bsmilie:

hehe for 36 shots, if i merely get ideas from here, they'll start to look the same. i've already came up with 5 potential locations where i want to shoot specific things. i have to come up with about 29 more ideas though. (:

OK, I will lay the initial ground rule. Mr YOL will add if I miss out any. We won't make it impossible for you, but will make it fun enough for all to enjoy the process. :)

1. You must post 36 pictures in total. You can request someone to post on your behalf in your absence. Each picture must be accompanied with a short write up on the subject that you are taking. Do not have to be an essay, but a short description of the subject. You do not need to include technical details like ISO, exposure or aperture. We are not interested in technical details. What we are interested in, is why you take the shot and the story behind each picture.

2. The pictures cannot be replicated. Pictures must be of different subjects. Picture must be taken at different places. (Can be of the same venue, but cannot be taken at different angle at the same venue. For example, if you take a statue of Stamford Raffles at boat quay with the CBD at the back ground, you cannot take the CBD as the back ground anymore. BUT you CAN take the the Asian Civilisations Museum, Caveniagh Bridge, Fullerton Hotel, Anderson Bridge, and any other things except the CBD buildings. Get it?

3. You may use as many rolls and negatives as you want to get the 36 shots. Do NOT use digital SLR. We can tell the difference. Only Mr YOL's Zorki may be used.

4. You may use other equipment to get the meter reading. You can use handheld meter, DSLR or prosumer PnS to get meter reading for the shutter speed and aperture readings.

5. You can take up to 4 days to finish first roll. Including processing & scanning. After 4 days, the first shot must be posted on this forum. We will create a separate post for this event. If you can post earlier, you may do so.

6. Judging (I leave this to Mr YOL to add... :) )

hmm okay one question. if i shoot a picture of a cat. let's call the cat A. that means i can shoot any other cat except A in a different venue right?

No. Not another cat. Not even another cat of different colour or species. There can only be 1 cat in the 36 series. Cat is considered a subject. Like wise, if you take a portrait of a friend, you cannot take another friend anymore. There can only be 1 face portrait in the 36 frames that you post. Like wise, you can only take 1 sun rise & 1 sun set.

It would be too boring for the spectator to see a series of cats or dogs or different faces. What I would like to see is how a 15 year old sees things at different places and at different times. :)

To kick start, there is no use to plan what you want to take. It would be better that you take the camera, go out, spend the mornings or afternoons, covering different places, see things and take pictures that interest you. Through that, you will experience the mood at the time of capturing the photo and imprint the feelings in your brain. When you go back, process the picture, look at the picture on your monitor, your emotions will come back and you will have the inspiration to write about the picture that you have just taken. It's that simple. This is not an assignment where a theme is given and you stick to the theme. This assignment is to let you explore your creativity so that we can see what a 15 year old can do with a RF camera.

What is required of you is the time and energy to come up with 36 presentable pictures for us to see. If you can show us that you have the passion to do this, then you are fit to be the new proud owner of Mr YOL's Zorki.

But before you embark on this, please get your parents consent before doing this. I don't think I will issue any parent/student consent form for this. And will not undertake any responsibilities for accidents/incidents that might happen. :bsmilie:

Fair? :)

from the looks of it, this is gonna be really hard! i mean if i take a tree, and another picture has a tree in it, then how! hahahaha. that means DQ! cos you got two trees in your whole set! i think, i'll just embark on this challenge, do my best and see what comes out of it.
i don't think my parents mind at all, not to brag, but i'm a pretty sensible kid. (:

so i guess on Mr Chiif and my part, we're both agreeable. (: only thing i'm worried about is when i'm getting the camera! i hope the sooner the better!

This is a perfect idea for a CS competition! Not Counter Strike, but there's shooting all the same.

Samuel

I'm eager to see the series

bad or not not sure yet, but sure will be creative , which i want to see. :) The zorki so beautiful.

I'll be in Pennisular are between 3pm to 6pm. I believe Mr YOL will be there around that time too. Normally, we hang out at the big coffee shop inside Pennisular Shopping Centre with the huge projection TV. I will pass you the 3 rolls Superia 400 film as promised. Once you get hold of the camera, do get some pointers from Mr YOL (Mr Lee) on how to use, especially how to rewind the film after finish shooting! That's the most important step! Do read up on the instructions from the internet on the camera first.

You have fun and we will meet tomorrow. :)

BTW, the intention of the challenge is not to see perfect 36 pictures. What I am more interested is how a 15 year old see things in this world. And it would be a bonus, if we see improvements from the first frame to the last 36th frame. Just like a reality show! :bsmilie:

Do note that you can take as many shots as you want, we will create a new thread for you to post. The thread is open to critics to give constructive suggestions/feedback on how to improve over the next 36 days. As a 15 year old, your biggest asset is able to make mistakes and not take any comments personally. So, at the end of the 36 frames, we should see some improvements from the first. Take this as a fun learning process and for the rest, it's a Reality Show in the making... :bsmilie:
