As there might be a couple that may not be in working order, could I suggest that all ballot for the lenses i.e. if you win the bid :bsmilie:

Then if anyone gets a spoilt copy, he/she gets his money back and the cost is spilt among those that have a working copy.

Sounds reasonable? :)

sounds workable.

actually, even if i do get a non-working piece, i dun mind sending it in for servicing. heck... its not everyday u can buy a pro-body for under $1k... ;p

tho... i just wish SPH just hold a direct sale of items rather dan bidding... it cuts off everyone expect the big players... :bheart:

hehehe that is if the body is serviceable...also if the lens are badly abused~not much hope as well

I thought SPH should take care of their items pretty meticulously but amount of dust and spider webs looks scary hahaha the D1s look okay though~

but heck just for the fun of it~ like playing ti gum ;p

Actually we can appoint some of us who are honest and have a good knowledge of camera equipments to go down and test through all the bodies and lenses first, then make a list of what need to be repair for every camera. After that, go to Nikon for quotation of the 'bulk' repairs (it might be cheaper this way!!). Add up the cost of repair and equipments for individual group, divide it equally amongst the buyers.

If there's a need, slight alteration of prices can be done, eg: cheaper for lousy cosmetic and more expensive for better cosmetic, to even up the cost.

Hi all,

There's a lot of interest, and concern about quality etc. Let me state what I (or if I'm organising a group) would do in this situation.

1) Go and have a look at the stuff. This is most important. Make the best judgement you can from looking at the state of the items, rather than depending on theoretical market value only. As some have pointed out, this is "as is" sale. No guarantees, there may be spoilt items.

2) Ask yourself how much money you'd be willing to part with for the items you think are worth it. Make that your bid price, considering that you'll also have to take the items you don't think are worth it and the possibility duds.
This way, no/little heartbreak if it turns out that there was a high incidence of duds.

Let me add that I do not think that vendors are better off than individuals organised in a group in this, for 2 reasons: First, vendors are not likely to pay any more for what they consider worthless in a batch - they too would probably base their offer on the "good" items and assign a zero value to the others. Secondly, they'd have to consider profit and hence offer an amount lower than their intended selling price. Individual (groups) do not have to think of re-sale/profit.

We have done such sales before where staff (individuals) have to compete with outside vendors (companies). Staff have successfully secured iMacs etc.

Hopes this helps. Good luck all who are organising yourselves, or if there's an entrepreneur out there.

Geoff

hi geoff,

dun think the 35-70/2.8 is an AFS lens. it's either AF, or u meant 28-70/2.8 AFS.
