thought it'd be good to have a discussion here on the usual ways that you guys bargain in shops. e.g. we all know that cathay price tags are wayyy overpriced. the lowepro dres-aw20 was tagged at $39.90. i got it at $15.

any guys here wanna share tips on bargaining at specific stores? and which stores allow you to bargain with them?

Just tell them, I can get it at XXXX elsewhere.

Just go to the shop that give you the best price. There may be different prices at different shops due to higher overhead e.g. rental, staff etc. Like espn said just tell them you can get it xxx at another place. But be careful cause they might tell you to go and get it there (if the price is too much of a difference).

I dunno what is the best bargaining tips or tricks.

When I can afford to buy expensive item, I normally bargain with cash. Walk into the shop.

Look around, flash the cash then said what is the best price? Normally, u might not get the best price....

But you do get alot of respect

Then I'll buy from the other shop and sell at the same cost to them lor. Tho' don't earn but just for the spite of it.

You'll get a lot of respect from the salesmen and a lot more interest from the robbers. :bsmilie:

If a photographic item costs $250 I would tell the camera shop $150 is all I have and if they want anymore they would have to take my shirt, watch, shoes and belt.

They would take pity on me and let me have the item for $150 and also give me $5 to catch MTR home.

:)

Blood sucker la..:bsmilie: What you thinking..:sticktong

I usually do quite a lot of "price research" first before deciding which shop. Also, I think about what other things I want to buy as well like camera accessories, and how much I'm willing to pay.

The price research is to give me an idea of how much the prices vary. So after choosing the shop, usually I ask "How much does this cost?", followed by "Can I get discounts on the price?" If the answer is no or discount is quite small, I'll then say "I'm thinking of getting XZY camera accessories blah blah as well, so if I can get a good price for everything, I'll buy from you."

As last resort, I'll say "Actually, I'm only willing to pay $ABC for this or that, so what you are offering is way above my budget." Choose $ABC such that you have enough margin to bargain on. If the sales assistant is willing to get into a bargaining session, this is when it begins. :)

If still cannot get any discounts, then say that you'll think about it and walk around the corner and really think about it, or just accept the price if you know that it is a fair price to pay and if you can afford it.

wear low-cut and lean over the counter

Depends on the item that I am purchasing. If its only difference by a few dollars, I dont mind paying more. Why stress over the small amount.
