I am sorry you paid so much more. The common tactic is bait and switch. They give you a lower price to get you interested, and then switch the items so you don't know the price. For item such as 5DMKII kit set, you will pretty much do your homework already so they switch the 24-105 with the 24-70 (which you might not know the price). With their sweet talk and selling pressure, you end up paying a lot more than you should.

I am not sure going to case will do you any good. It is a matter of willing buyer, willing seller. You can say they are unethical and complaint to Canon Singapore that they are selling you the lens at above Canon RRP but honestly, what good is that going to help you get back your money?

Take it as a lesson learn and make sure you don't fall into their trap next time. In the mean time, your lesson might help others here to avoid getting cheated out of their hard earn money.

I HATE BALLY PHOTO. I SPENK 7K THERE ON A 5D MARK II. at first i wanted to kit with the 24-105. the ah beng from malaysia with the shittiest english served me. suddenly the so called owner of the shop cut in and asked me to upgrade to a 24-70 f2.8. he said it cost 3900 and asked me to add extra 2k. so i agreed. er. i didnt know how much it cost. hell, i forgot to research that lens. and so i eneded up paying 7k for a 5dm2 body and a 24-70. the 24-70 lens cost only 2699 from canon website. im going to try and get my money back. if not go to CASE.

PPL PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM BALLY PHOTO. the bloody malaysian sales man is a prick.

That is the way bally photo chop you. They sell you something below market, but then sweet talk you into buying something else as a "special bundle" at twice the market price...

Yes, not to rub salt in.. could have been cheaper.
Have you made your complain at CASE already?

Do not buy any expensive things in the region of 4 digits until you research on Clubsnap wat they cost... I mean, even if you drives a Porsche 911 Turbo, ga na chop carrot cake like that also buay song & not worth right?

well, i had good deal on my first time buying at bally photo funan.

that time was sunday and I looked for 85mm f/1.8 canon lens.
cathay & lords quote me for $580 inclusive of GST. got 2 other offers at $575 and $690 (yes, crazy $690) from camera shop at lucky plaza and far east plaza.
finally, i went to funan, J316 confirm not open on sunday, then tried to ask bally photo. they quoted me at 530 before GST, and 567 after it. so I decided to buy from him.

They did serve me well on my first visit :)

I got my lens at a good price from them. For the same lens I was quote $620 and $600 from J 3:16 and Camera Workshop respectively but when I went there I got it for $580. When they asked me if I wanted a UV filter for $60, I just laughed and told them they must be crazy, UV filter doesn't cost that much, especially not Vita-Con. I think the thing is you must insist you just want the lens and show them that you know the prices.

You were lucky. Most bait and switch shops will quote very low price for the item that you inquire and then try to sell you something else. If that doesn't work, they will try to push for over priced accessories. And when that doesn't work either, they will then tell you they are out of stock. So, you end up playing the game with them but at the end don't get what you want.

Wow so much bad review on this shop. Has any one tired to sell them back stuff?

E.g.
AB: 'Have! LP-E6'
Me: 'Original?'
AB: Yes of course.
Me: How much?
AB: '$299'

Brave guy: Why now i sell u a bundle of 10 at $190 each?
And u will be able to earn 1k from this 10 batt.

Anyone tired it?;p

Wow.. I even tried to buy sth from them previously..:bigeyes:luckily i didn't becos realised the price they quote are 10% higher than John 3.16, end up getting there instead.

i got my akarui dry cabinet from there...38 litres for 150 dollars..didn't think it was a rip off leh..cause most other places were quoting 158..

i think the lesson will be :
- get know the market price of those item(s) --> might refer to price guide
- get quotation from some stores
- do buy what u need. as sales purpose, they might offer other thing with some topup, but don't get tempted unless you know the market price also.

just my opinion...

exactly the way to go! always to do research:thumbsup:

wow, i never knew capitamall have such power to tell their shops to refund:think:

Shops like these should be blacklisted, but again, I am not a big fan of opinion that we need to do our research before walking into a shop (although having said this, I do my research till death before I buy anything):bsmilie:

What this means essentially is, if my wife wanted to buy me a cam or PDA phone, or computer as a gift, she would not be able to do it as she is not "savvy" about such things....... Sales have to be a reliable source of information and advise on such items.

I hope I live to see us doing it the american way, "money back guarantee". This will ensure all shops sell quality goods at a competitive price.

of course we all don't like to do research before buying..it is honestly a very tiring process..hahaha, running from shop to shop and taking note of the prices, noting it down..not a very nice process...yeah,american way's great but the system is gonna get abused. eg. if someone wants to rent a camera, they might as well buy it and use it for a week and then say that they are not 'satisfied with it' and return it with all their money back, having been able to take good pictures with it for a week.very bad ethics on the consumers part..but it is happening over there..

Yes, I know the issue of abuse is going to come up for sure, in US, people abuse the system also. You see on TV how high school girls buy their gown for prom night and then return it immediatelly after the dance, my colleagues in US confirmed that it happened in real life.

But instead of focusing on the 20% who will abuse the system, think of the other 60% genuine buyers. And for the 20% of in betweens, the system would give them confidence to buy it and try and there is always a chance that they will keep it. without this system, they might not even step into the shop.

I do not want to deviate too much from the thread, we are no different from the people in US, we are all consumers, if the system worked there, surely it will work here. And I am quite sure it took them a while for the system to settle in.
