dunno why bally boss invite such kind of people to work for him, they are helping him to pour his rice bowl away. maybe one day we want to gang up as a team and create troubles for the ah beng infront of his boss, see what will happen...

I went to Bally's at 2nd floor last week and asked for the 'cheapest UV filter'. I explained I wanted to remove the glass element of the filter and make my own special effects filter so the quality of the glass is not important. The salesman (middle age, quite tall) was very friendly and immediately guided me away from the Hoya section to cheap $15 filters. I walked away with 2 filters for $30 and he was very friendly throughout the process, and did not push any other stuff to me. He even spent time to write a receipt for 2 $15 filters!

My experience is very different from yours....
could have gotten just the 10 dollars filters. cheaper.

actually Bally photo funan has a old salesman uncle who is more honest and experienced. I bought a lowepro bag from him - though a bit higher but he patiently let me try out dslr which I told him in advance I have no intention of getting. In the end I get to play with Canon 500D, nikon D5000 and a pentax dslr

Upz for Bally photo old uncle :)

quite famous la..

but makes me wonder.. do they just go about employing people like that? i mean, seriously? the shop owner specifically looks for ah bengs to employ meh?
Low paying job with a 6 days week and no public holidays, not many Singaporeans will apply, much less stay at such a job for long. This is why retail stores often settle for sales staff with low education levels or foreign imports.

In Funan. only shop i go is John, No matter you buy or not, you get the same service and same smile

I banned other shop long long time ago
 I just wished that they'll move to a bigger store, it's often difficult to even get in the store during "peak hours".

It is a free market in Funan no one force you to buy from them if the price is not right you don't have to say also shop badmouthed

Filter size is 77mm. Brand is Vitacon.

Oh, I paid using vouchers from Maybank MC so I essentially got it free. :)

Not that chopper, this chopper...

Hyperlink embedded within the image.

Simi l**p**... £99.99 for a bloody chopper? Champion...

i wanted to buy some a wide angle lens for a compact camera..(market price about S$60~S$80), and walked into a shop in SLS...purposely wear bermudas, and tee..and ask a lau ah beng..

"brother, wu wide angle lens adapter..compact camera eng a bo?"

ah beng, replied.."wu..wu.."

I asked further "gui liew?"

ah beng replied "ba gao nia lah" (translate - S$190 only lah)

Btw, it was finally reduced to S$60, with my 1st foot out of the shop..
I told him "kam sia, mai liao" (thanks, no need liao)

Even speaking hokkien and singlish in SLS, wont guarantee our "safety"

This is funny :bsmilie: It took me a while to read though, as i am not hokkien.

Went hunting for 5D MkII batteries today. All shops at Peninsula said no stock. Just decided to try my luck at Funan - any shop also ask. Went Bally Photo and guess what this Ah Beng (complete with bleached hair) said:

AB: 'Have! LP-E6'
Me: 'Original?'
AB: Yes of course.
Me: How much?
AB: '$299'

At this point my jaw dropped.

Me: 'You mean $299 for this darn thing???'
AB: 'Yes!'
Me: 'Nevermind.' And I started walking to the door
AB: 'Wait I check what's the best price I can give you' - Pulls out trusty casio
AB: $190
Me: Nevermind thanks.

In a matter of minutes the price can be reduced by $100. WTF he think he's trying to pull? Me wet behind the ears tourist???

I buy from Ebay cheaper & safer... And i can choose whether i want original or 3rd party.

I bought my Olympus E-510 from them during Dec 2007 at the Funan Branch.
The outlet was the one on level 4 or level 5, no the main shop at level 2.

I bought from a young guy.
At that time, Olympus was offering the E-510 with dual kit lenses at $1499 with some other freebies like memory card, bag and cleaning kit.

I bargained it until $1499 with dual kit lenses, 0.5X tele-converter, a small camera bag, memory card.
I check the camera, it's nicely wrapped up and new set.

But nowadays, they seems to be "chopping" people's head!

There was once I went in to ask the price of a UV filter.
The guy told me $50!
It was not even a Hoya, Kenko or Tokina brand!!!
It was a Taiwan/China made one.
(this happened at both SLS and Funan!)

I think that more and more people are getting into photography, either because of more spending power, the consumerism mentality or simply because "it looks cool".

There is a sizable group of people from this bunch who are not to savvy about the market prices and merchant history. Many of the chopper shops survive and gets bolder on people like this.

I too was victims (and like to meet more) to many dishonest salespersons. These bad sheep salespersons are simply damaging the impression of honesty within the country. Now shop sales as profession is giving me a bad impression all because of these people. Door to door were once doing fine but bad sheeps started doing bad sales tactics and cheats, resulting in people not trusting. Imagine children will brand their parent as dishonest characters just bec the parent work in x company with bad reputation (impression by induction).

Shops can earn profit as they are suppose to but to me, they must be not attempt to cheat or quote price with the intention to exploit with lesser inform people. There was one shop which I deemed it dishonest as they label their tripod at 100% price higher. Although sales lowers when asked, unknowning people can also end up paying this amount.

Many or most may feel that being cheated is because buyers are not doing their homework. While this may be reality, that doesn't mean everyone can cheat and simply repent after. We certainly don't want to be living in a world of suspicion with parental distrust, spouse distrust, friends distrust and every single one. Anyway, balance of nature will take over when these bad sheeps reaches and unbalance level. You litter earth, earth falls sick, trouble starts.

NPNT (no picture no talk)! I mean your picture. I want to see how you look like, guess you look like a tourist ^^
