Surprisingly, I don't trust AP as they quote inconsistently...OP is my favourite shop after John 3:16 and they do sell some very hard-to-find things like the Leica leather hand-strap.But of course, Bally photo is the absolute worst.

Totally agree...EVERY REPUTABLE SHOP LETS YOU TEST EQUIPMENT.I tried some very expensive lenses at CP such as the Leica 35mm f1.4 and 50mm f1.4 (Probably about $4k each.). Also got to try the new D3(at that time) on 9fps and some very ex PC lenses.
Same here.. I was so frustrated with them when I was shopping for a D300 body in Oct last year.
They quoted $1926 for it and made it so enticing to me (since it was the cheapest price I was quoted) that I made the decision to buy it there and then.
But then...when I told them that I want to buy the body only kit they started trying to sell me their battery (3rd party 5000 mAh @ $150 & 8Gb CF card @ $120). Then I declined saying I only want the body kit don't want the additional accesories. Then they offered me to trade in the ORIGINAL Nikon Batt (1500 mAh) that comes with the D300 kit for the 3rd party's 5000 mAh batt for additional top up of $85. I respectfully declined again. So eventually they said they rather not sell the body kit if I'm not buying the accessories.
Blardy waste of time.

i don't think that's bally photo... is it? i always remembered bally photo as being a little counter with many tripods displayed outside the shop.
those shops you mentioned seem like tourist chopper shops to me. i've walked past them many times and they are usually empty except for some fierce looking old men

6 months back i was bringing a friend to Cathay and John to get a compact camera for his overseas attachment. Out of my curiosity for these chopper shops, I asked for a particular Canon compact in Bally.
The salesperson started showing me alot of other (more expensive) cameras. I didn't get to see that particular model in the end. I just smiled, pulled my friend and walked out.
No wonder is a "banned" shop.

Whoa that is quite bad. At this price, you could have bought a Canon 40D back then, plus a good lens. My sympathies.

Ah, the classic bait-and-switch, whereby the shopowner KNOWS you have done your research, and convinces you that you should get another model which you know little about.
Anyway, IMO locals who shop at these places and get chopped and then come here to whine deserve no pity.

hahah i've heard a few bad things about this shop...
mate of mine bought a 1d mkIII there a while back, having been lied to that it was the blue dot models that didnt have the fix for the AF... cost him a fair bit i think...
and he now shoots nikon as a result of that.. :dunno: shame eh

Not sure I follow you. Your friend switch from C to N because he bought a 1dMKIII with no AF fixes from Bally?
Blue dot or no blue dot, how will it cost your friend a fair bit? Care to explain further? I thought Canon will fix the AF problem FOC even if the camera is out of warranty. Blue dot means the fixes has been applied and to distinguish the difference. Correct me if I am wrong.

I HATE BALLY PHOTO. I SPENK 7K THERE ON A 5D MARK II. at first i wanted to kit with the 24-105. the ah beng from malaysia with the shittiest english served me. suddenly the so called owner of the shop cut in and asked me to upgrade to a 24-70 f2.8. he said it cost 3900 and asked me to add extra 2k. so i agreed. er. i didnt know how much it cost. hell, i forgot to research that lens. and so i eneded up paying 7k for a 5dm2 body and a 24-70. the 24-70 lens cost only 2699 from canon website. im going to try and get my money back. if not go to CASE.

sorry to hear that.
honestly, i am just so surprised to find out that there are people who are willing to spend so many thousands of dollars in camera equipment, without even finding out the recommended retail prices.
sorry, i am not taking a shot at you..but just surprised at your nonchalantness about it before buying.
