Who want to join me to buy a plot of coconut plantation in Sabah? We can pool together resources and then build a CS KPT mansion in the middle of it. Then we can hire Sulu warriors as security guards and buy a few limousines to ferry xmm for our mansion parties. We can live like Hugh Hefner or Berluscioni. Daytime drink from coconut. Night-time squeeze coconut. Why waste time worrying about a piece of paper?
Ok I will join you. But I think the most tua kong car in Sabah are Toyota Cruisers 4WD, better for the plantation roads.

Malaysia boleh! On hindside, Khaw may be speaking from his heart. Malaysia may be a better place for most of us who are tired of politicians, xmm, rats squeezing our coconuts. We should look for a place where we have plenty of coconuts to live on. I am tired of politicians talking the talk. Maybe we should walk the walk. It is too tiring listening and thinking about all these craps when you wake up till you sleep. There has to be better things to do.
Can life be simpler?
If HDB can implement the balloting system for flats why cant LTA for COE?
If want to avoid black market just do as HDB do, e.g 5 year lock-in and loads of other constraints
As I mentioned sometime ago, there could be Balloted COE and Bid COE at the same time. Bal COE is like public housing and Bid COE is like private property.. Just set some proper quota and constraint.
There are some conditions that I can think of:
- Only 1 Bal COE per house hold that has no COE yet. Priority to family with children.
- Cap income of $x, cap 1.6l car for Bal COE.
- If get Bid COE must give up Bal COE.
- 5 year lock in non transfer for Bal COE. If transfer before 10 years, must wait 2 years before joining another balloting.
What about the possibility of say, I want 2 cars, my cousin doesn't want any and he has children, so he gets one COE too for me because I'm family  ...
He let me have the car and I drive both cars.
Yet another case - I want 2 cars, my neighbour doesn't want any, I am filthy rich, so I pay him $10K to get a COE. I drive both cars.![]()
Probably not under your proposed system, but who's to stop anyone from just saying that they loaned the car to you for one day? They can only transfer to you after 5 years. Or may be Bal COE can only transfer back to Gov.
And is it legal to buy a car with COE under someone else name?
Not very nice term to use at this time.
Can life be simpler?
I said it in jest. I also think that there is no easy solution when demand far outstrip supply. But I do think that making the individuals bid for non-transferable COE (rather than have the distributors do it) would help. More troublesome? Yes, but hey you wanted that car right? Also, COE (at least a large portion of it) must not be in the loan. That will make people become more prudent.
The present COE system is not perfect. It has the false appearance of fair allocation by way of high bidders setting price level.
Which by definition penalises the less well off. It will never be changed voluntarily as it is a cash cow.
Only if they lose many seats. When the pain of keeping the COE is greater than the pain of losing it.
scrap the bloody COE system and raise tax on petrol. You can buy 100 cars for all I care, you pay for what you consume on the road. End of the day, what you really want is to control the number of vehicles on the road , not car ownership. If I am bloody rich and buy every model of cars out there, I can only drive one car at one time. If I am not rich but need a car, I can buy and park it. I drive it only when I need to.
