Bali

It's ... cool at night. Totally depends on a person's tolerance for cold I would think. A sweater would be good.
There's just a lot of mozzies at night, didn't venture out much haha
Yes it's dark, then again, that would depend on your place to stay too. If you're thinking of taking photos of stars, a good foreground is important ... and hard to find in a jungle

I stay in Ubud. Our driver brought us out for a full day tour. Based on the time that I took the photos, our tour for that day should be as below. Hope the timings help in your planning? :).... Do remember to bring small change for the bersakih temple visit. We pay quite alot as we only have the bigger rp100000 notes only. :( ...This temple is really "chop" tourists ones....think really bad for bali tourism....

Left Ubud, Tegallalang Rice Terrace (9am) > Barong Dance at local village (945am~1045am) > Stop near a cliff for photo stop, view of rice terrace (12pm) > Bersakih Temple (1230pm~145pm) > Lunch near Kinatamni Volcano (220pm~335pm) > Coffee Plantation (4pm~430pm) > Pura Tirta Empul Temple (440pm~510pm) > Monkey Forest (550pm~610pm) > Dirty Duck Resturant at Ubud (635pm)

Thanks so much for your itinerary of your day! :)
So you did an Ubud-Bersakih-Kintamani-Ubud round trip in a day, and also squeezed in other activities.
Ok cool. That means I'm not being overly optimistic with my itinerary. That helps greatly, thanks!

Would be interested to know the location of that cliff photo stop, if that's possible. I 'think' I know where Tegallalang rice terrace is. haha.

Thanks so much once again!

Hi… my family plan to stay at Ubud for 2 day this coming june. My question is regarding the temperature in and around Ubud, as I believe that Ubud is above sea level… is it advisable to bring a sweater for the elderly ??

Also… is the sky above Ubud, fill with Stars at night, since Ubud is located at a more Ulu part of Bali ??

Thxs for any info…

I just went in early April this year and stay at Villa Sarna at Ubud, near Tellegang rice terrace. The weather is kind of erratic, heavy rains and sunny all within a couple of hrs. Really hot and humid at Ubud center. I don't really feel cold in the evening even when it is raining there. But it is a different story when we sleep in the Villa at night. We did not switch on the air con as it get cold at night, most probably becoz the villa is located in an ulu forest. But since you have elderly folks with you, it will be good to bring some jackets for them. :)

Just took a look at my pictures again. I did not take any photos of stars in the night.hehe. I don't really remember seeing many stars in Ubud at night. Sorry can't help much here. :)

You can tell from my itnieary that we squeeze alot of places into 1 day.hehe. We usually stay in each temple for around 20mins~1hr before we move on. Most of the temples are quite small so didn't spend much time. But I guess we got a good driver and the traffic are pretty smooth as well. We actually have 3 full days tours and try to cover different parts of Bali in each day. :)

Sorry not too sure about the cliff. The driver just suddenly ask us whether we want to stop for photos. There actually a cafe beside this cliff but my pictures didn't capture the name of the cafe. Maybe you can ask your driver?

Thxs....

Yeah... I want to try some 'Stars' photography... have to know is hauling a CF Tripod and wired remote all the way there worth the effort. Mozzies and low temp is a small problem for me... just have to bring a light sweater and bug spray along.

I made it from Kuta to Lake Bratan within 2+ hours on my previous trip, so I was wondering if I was being silly to plan another one of similar distance towards Kintamani this time. It looks do-able, though a bit rushed I will have to admit.
Ok will ask the driver about this cliff. I suppose he will know :)

Ya, it is quite close to Bersakih temple so guess the driver should know. Have fun~!

I will be heading to Bali next week. Would anyone be as kind as to pm me the contacts for a driver?
I would staying in kuta for the first night and seminyak for the last 2 nights.
Many thanks in advance.

I'm heading there next week too! :)
If you search the earlier pages of this thread, I remember posting up some details. Must have been months ago.
Now using iPhone. Difficult to search.

Thanks! I just saw the link to balicarrent.Just to check, do we have to pay for petrol?

for this car rental, yes.
some other companies offer rental incl petrol, though their rates are about 100K IDR more per day, which works out to about 20+ litres.
I think the last time I coughed up about 80K-100K rupiah for petrol after 3 days of rental :)

100k is about 15 sgd?

Anyway i will be there from 20th to 23rd

I will be reaching the airport @ 245pm on day 1. Is it possible to make it to tanah lot for the sunset assuming that i will be checking in @ kuta?
If that is too ambitious, i guess i will be hanging out at kuta beach and the surrounding shopping areas.

Flight arrives 2:45?
By the time you clear customs and get to hotel in Kuta, it should be abt 4+.
I think you have enough time w/o having to really rush :)
Bear in mind that you may not have much time to scout for good shooting location if you arrive too close to sunset

Thanks.
Yup. Flight arrives at 245pm.

In that case i may just give tanah lot a miss.
What time is the sunset in bali? Google seems to suggest that last light is @ 6.00? Can i assume it is abt an hr earlier than SG?

This is what i have in mind.

Day 1

1445 Denpasar Airport. Depart for hotel in Kuta.
1630 Depart for Kuta Beach. If i can leave hotel by 4pm, will make way to Jimbaran Bay for sunset and dinner.
1900 Dinner + shopping and night life @ Kuta

Day 2
Ubud + Mengwi + tanah lot

Day 3
Lake Bratan + Jatiwuluh + Denpasar mkt Any suggestions for evenings?

Timings are rather loose as my wife prefers it to be a more leisure trip since we have booked 2 nights of villa stay.
I should be able to squeeze in Uluwatu, Mangrove Forest @ Jalan Bypass Ngurah Ra and maybe Sanur. Are they worth gg? Or are there any must go places in Bali. Would prefer places that are scenic and localize.

Your itinerary sounds all right.
I assume you wanna spend some time in places like Ubud (makan + massage + walk around, etc) and Bratan, so best not to try and squeeze so many things in.
I found the sand around Sanur beach area to be very coarse and uncomfortable. The boats parked along the beach were nice though.
Uluwatu maybe can go on the last day (23rd)?

Ya. i was thinking of visiting the traditional mkts over there. Don't think will do any spa or massage though.
My flight is at 3pm on the 23rd. Is it worth gg to uluwatu? We are quite wary of the monkeys there.

Btw any recommendations on what to do at bratan besides the temple? i want to visit some local villages but couldnt find any info on them.
