Damn i miss bali, especially the King Kong burger eating at the rd side a place called Flame Burger at legian kuta.

#3 surfboards at the beach, a classical shot. most of them are found under shades, so it is a hard time looking for one that is under the sun. but finding strong primary colors are not that difficult.

sorry to hear about the problems you faced.
I always used to dream of going to Bali until I realized it was a tourist trap. Now its totally off my list of places to travel to.... I would rather go to Lombok and do the 4-5 days trek that redoxsim had mentioned in one of his posts...

I like #1. Its one of your trademark sunrise shots. One look and I can see zoossh written all over it. I haven't compared these photos side by side, but the colors remind me of the sunrise you shot from your hotel in Varanasi...

I like the angle at which you shot - either you shot blind or you must have literally lied on the beach...

One minor thing to note is the two guys on the rightside of the frame - not sure if had considered cropping them off.

Thanks for the writeup - only reinforces my belief that Bali can be avoided.

That was in Allahabad... Our room next to balcony with the 2 chairs...

A tiring self-trip with lots of frustrations dealing with drivers and not as budget easy as thought. worse of all, was assaulted by a monkey from high ground, took my spectacles, jump onto the cliff, wear it for a second, bite it and broke it into half......, which totally destroyed my trip at pura ulu watu and no dancer performance to view, luckily i have a spare spectacles back in the hotel.

was so bad luck that i drop jimbaran and stayed whole day at kuta beach the last day. photographic yield is mid-low for me due to various personal/situational reasons. will post a short notes at a later time. didn't quite get desired beach and padi field shots. and some pictures are fairly acceptable.

#1 boats going to the smaller islands from sanur, east coast, morning.

waah.. i'm supposed to go Bali this weekend... but couldn't get the air tickets.. so family gg without me next week... maybe i'll lend my sis my cam n ask her to copy ur compositions.. haha... quick post more before next Wed... die lah you post so slow wan and now only at #2..

i understand the incomplete framing. but if you are talking about the different sizes of the boats, there is probably nothing i can do about it, rite? if that is what you mean by the size of the boats which are different types of boats.... height wise, it is also a torn decision, as i still prefer the guy to stand up with a silhouette.

Is it easy to frame such a shot with your D50 (or did you change cam already)? That is the reason why I got my oly E330 to try to frame pics from different angles.

Nice angle and sky. did not like the boat on the left though

my production has always been quite "manual" and "individualised", which is why it is always like a photo once a few days or at most 2-3 photos a day.

more will come later, but it will not be like my india's trip which is still like three-quarter way in posting of pictures. that is why i say this trip is of lower yield.

this shot is done using an electronic viewfinder (zigview). an alternative is to use an optical angle viewfinder while lying down or with a swivel LCD like oly. lying down alone is not enough as there is a distance between our chin and our eye, or our temple and our eye, both longer than the distance between the viewfinder to the ground. .

other than oly E330, does all oly models have that? just out of curiosity.

actually just before going bali, i've a fleeting thought of inviting you to join but drop the idea. just thought that you would be tired after going for a trip in melbourne. the whole holiday running to different places, wouldn't you feel tired with that? i often feel home sick after about 5 days although ironically i like to travel, the more different from what i'm familiar with the more exotic it is and the more interested i'm in - however exotic places would all cost a bomb to fly to.

I have the zigview SC-V100 for my old s3pro. That thing was very troublesome for me to mount and unmount. And the eye piece adaptor broke after a few usage so now it is lying in one of my cabinet somewhere.

That was the reason I decided to try the live view of olympus. All oly NEW dslr has live view but only the E330 has an articulated live view (but only one angle of freedom, doesn't work on portrait orientation).

But the viewing angle is good so with come squatting and bending you can take very low shots even without an articulate LCD.

That was the reason I decided to try the live view of olympus. All oly NEW dslr has live view but only the E330 has an articulated live view (but only one angle of freedom, doesn't work on portrait orientation).

But the viewing angle is good so with come squatting and bending you can take very low shots even without an articulate LCD.

i gave up on the adaptor. it is attached onto the viewfinder at all times, whereas the connection to the adaptor was loosened and detached. everytime i need to use it, i just poke it in, however i need to be gentle with it as it may fall off with a knock.

#4 met a Japanese couple at Purah Tanah Lot who asked me to help them take a photo using their compact. I offered additional shot with my camera. got a bad cokin filter which affects my ability to balance the overexposed sky.

At least for the foreground, I can't think of any explanation with regards to why there are shadows to the left of the guy in the picture, unless there was huge thing with major directional lighting happening.

i tilted the filter at about maybe 20-30 degrees to allow more light on the right (more structures, less sky) and to minimize the darkening on their faces. however unsure why the less filtered right side is darker, may be due to blown highlight on the left. i allowed blown highlight as it is more important to allow sufficient exposure on their faces, as this is intended for them.

as for the shadows to the left of the guy, do you mean the shadow of purah tanah lot itself? i can't see other shadows. as for the contrary, there is a strong beam of goldren ray cutting pass the edge of the temple, through the field of mosses and lighting up the right side

#5 monkeys at monkey sanctuary in ubud. safer over here as most monkeys are on lower ground and have abundant food supply from tourist. as such they dun take your other belongings. nonetheless....

Hrm, I think perhaps it is the shadow of purah tanah lot itself that I'm talking about.

The strong beam of golden ray would explain it I guess. =)
