best part is, i had been to the shop a number of times, got served by the same guy

and he knows i am tight budget sort

maybe trying luck lor.. so i laughed straight off and told me, got stock everywhere else, bye bye

Hmm, such mentality of the salesman is funny. If he knows u are the tight budget sort, he should try to clinch the deal from you at the street price ma. Either way, he also earn. Maybe their operation style is, example,

Boss: I want to sell this lens at 500 bucks.
Salesman: So if i chop some carrots and sell at 1k, the extra 500 is mine?
Boss: Yup~

2 hrs later

Salesman:you confirm cannot find this lens for your brand mount elsewhere at cheaper price, even for grey
night86mare::bsmilie:, got stock everywhere else, bye bye
Salesman: (suck )

;p

I am sure there could be a communication broke down somewhere between yourself and the sales staff in the store.

I think I know which store you are referring to, and I am a regular there. My studio bought more than $15,000 worth of equipment from this store in 2007, knowing that most of their goods are, as you said, 'imported' by them. So far, none of them went back to the store for exchange or servicing.

Since you are a newbie, let me share with you this information. Lenses seldom breakdown unless you drop or mishandle it. I have bought quite of a few lenses throughout my 28 years in photography; both original and third party. Maybe it is good luck but none of them broke down or needed major servicing. If there is a problem to the lens, it is always my fault not the manufacturer's or the dealer's.

So far, I have very pleasant experience with this store and I must elaborate the fact that the sales staff there knows what they are selling. Therefore, I conclude that there had to be a miscommunication.

photobum - same here if it is indeed the same store, the no locals thing should be a deadgiveaway

in fact, the boss made it very clear to me that my set was going to be grey, am i sure i want it or not, etc

seems fishy to me that they have suddenly changed their attitudes in less than a year?

Their attitude towards me has been very consistent since I made my first purchase about a year ago. Maybe they know I cannot be fooled as I do my research and know my stuff very well. In fact, they have given me the freedom and trust to roam their store and check things out even though, as you know, how little spaces there are behind their display counters.

I'm just going to go ahead and guess, oh pee?

I yo??? pm me lor i tell which is the shop

quite obvious what. no locals, even i am not based in sg at the moment..
shop starts with letter.. O? :)

If they know you can be fooled or does not do your research does it mean that they will try to fool you ???.

How to take TS seriously. Got the will to start this thread but suddenly lost the nerve to name the shop by name. C'mon why keep all of us guessing?

Is it the china shop in SLS?

Oriental or something like that...

let me state here that i am perpetually amused that this shop seems to get the most flak here

despite the fact that there are old, seasoned, reliable members who swear by it and have received nothing but good service from them

AND let me also state here that every now and then it's always some member who's like one to three months old, that spouts something, makes it mysterious yet oh-so-bloody obvious that it's the same shop. go draw your own conclusions. i know i will draw it from MY own experience. :bsmilie:

HarleyNorman?;)so cool., fussy shop indeed!

HarleyNorman?;)so cool., fussy shop indeed!

"Hardly Normal" only the Funan outlet is ok.
Rest is just like Best Denki, Courts fixed price with little product knowledge.

 wow are u sure its O__ P___, that shop its ok ler, bought many items there, some cheaper than other shops, only service wise its ok ok, cause the sales wont entertain you unless you ask them something

Walau so which shop????????????? Scared kena sue ah?

think i better not put name else kena bashed. mabbe i'll just say that no locals are working in that shop and alot of their stuffs are brought in. Guess u guys more or less know hor...

By not naming the shop, your thread is not very useful to others as it may be seen as just a random thread against an unknown entity. Giving these clues wouldn't help either as it may make others think that it is Shop A (who they think fits the clues) but end up, you actually went to Shop B (thereby victimising Shop A for nothing).

Walau so which shop????????????? Scared kena sue ah?

There would be no fear of liability if the TS can prove what he said was true :).

Sometime ago, I wanted to buy a 62mm UV filter for a new lens, but was (am still) very busy and keep forgeting, and one day I happen to be at SLS, so I walk into the shop, as for the filter, shopkeeper quoted me $85.

I not sure about the price and think it is a little ex here, but I don't have the time to go to other places or my regular shops to find out the price or buy from them.

So I decided to pay this price.

Lesson learned: If you want to get good deal or buy in confident, do your homework first. and one more thing, once you paid, don't go around and check the price, this only make you look like a fool, so don't KPKB if you didn't do your homework.

well, I am being conservative of naming of shops which some other forums do not allow (perhaps could lead to some legal issues). Since u guys insisted, yes the shop starts with O__ P___. Don't know why some don't can't guess it:sweat:. I'm not trying bad mouth the shop is bad, juz sharing my experience the result of not doing my homework properly . Cheers!

Personally I feel that ordinary consumer should have or should have gather basic knowledge before buying an item that cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars. What I mean by basic knowledge is that the basic information like warranty period and issue, price and service center and distributor.

In this case, whether the sales person is deliberately or non-deliberately to con you, the basic knowledge you had should be able to justify for your choice to purchase or not.

From what I read, since the shop that is mentioned is run by foreigners and their stuff are imported from other country, therefore, there is a high possibility that they might not know who is the distributor. Actually, even some locals are not too sure who are the distributor of the 3rd party lenses and where they are located. This can be seen in the forum where people had started threads asking the information of the distributors of the 3rd party lens.

From my view, this is a mutual miscommunication since TS had also said that he is a newbie while the shop is managed by foreigners that import their goods from overseas.

Cheers :)
