Accompanied my friend to the abovementioned shop in SLS 2hrs ago to purchase a Nikon 35mm f/2D lens (in-house warranty), a 52mm UV filter & a 58mm lens cap. Tested the lens and agreed all items at a total sum of $499. After the saleman have written the receipt and my friend was about to make payment, when he took out his ATM NETS card, another saleman walk up and request for cash. So I said to him, we don't have so much cash at hand, so I said to him, what's the problem by paying NETS? He reply to me that any amount above $300 the Nets company will charge them extra $5. (Anyone out there heard such a thing before or is it a new rules).
After hearing that both of us got so pissed off. I told the saleman that we are not paying by credit as we all know that extra % will incurred if we pay by credit but now we are paying by NETS. The saleman still insist us to pay by cash and ask my friend go to the nearest ATM to withdraw cash. Now my friend got even more pissed off after hearing this.;(

By this time both of us told the saleman that we'll come back with the cash. But instead we walk out of the stupid shop and went back to office. Let them loose a customer today.

Very disappointed with the shop after some good review given by some CS member here.:thumbsd:

From now on my friend & I will not step into the shop again.:sticktong

dirty trick by them le.

5 dollar charge for about $300 purchase? This is the first time i heard of it. No idea if this is true or not...
If you are dealing witht the first salesman, why interupted by the second one...you should insist the agreed price and ask the second salesman to FO..

NETS will charge a small fee per transaction. but the exact amount is not published to the public, IIRC.

i've only heard of shops not accepting payment in credit card becos of the high service charge. but NETS? dats a first....

Lose a customer becos of $5? :nono:

iirc its 1%... then some misc charges...

hmm, so diverse, serviced like King to now Pauper...

seriously,

I think you guys a little petty. If the shop really say cannot accept nets, I will go down and draw the money cuz I know I REALLY GOT a GOOD BARGAIN and the shop's prices are probably the lowest you can find.....

Worse, lose it's trust in CS...
Sometimes, a little gesture will make a brighter day.. hope someone will pass the message to the shop owner..

From Strait Time (H5)
NET charge business between 0.35% - 0.55% of purchase.
From July 1st, that will increase by 0.75% - 2% point.

Go read the papers - NETS is charging more money for each transaction & many many many small retailers are very unhappy about it.

I always thought paying by nets is the same as paying by cash.

serious reply very boring. :(

I don't think it's true, pple are now trying to go cashless transaction. I don't think any guys & gals want to bring large amount of cash to purchase your electronic stuff.

At first the saleman who serve us request for cash then the 2nd saleman overheard of our purchase is over $300 so pop-in and tell us to pay cash too. He's the one who told us any amount above $300 there will be a charge of $5.;(

Even though there a small charges, mostly shop will absorb it's charges. We're not going to carry $1K to $2K in the wallet go to camera shop and puchase a DSLR or a lens right?

I've been to Orient Photo last week to check out the price of the Nikkor 18-200mm VR and this is the first time that I experience where there's another price for paying with cash instead of NETS.

In the end, I bought my lens at Bargain City paying by NETS.

I concur, I don't feel comfortable carrying a large amount of cash to pay.

Nikon lens price are not really that fantastic there. It's only a different of $15 cheaper between their in-house warranty and a shop that carries NSC warranty after we went back to check with another shop. I only agree their Sigma is cheap but still in-house warranty.

Well for those who still wants to get good bargain lens with them better bring lots of cash in your wallet to standby.

i think its true..

cos last month, went to 5th floor to buy 3 sets of computer system...

was told that there is a surcharge even by NETS.. arguements and arguements..

but end up paying 4k plus of CASH...

 What! Just don't understand why they're charging more for each transaction. So they wants us to carry large sum of cash and walk around the shopping centre to buy things.:sticktong NETS & Credit got charges so what are we going to use? CASHCARD?

You should tell us when you go PC shopping again... :D

Seriously though, it's actually against NETS and the credit card policies for there to be a mark-up when paying. Technically, every time a Sim Lim shop tries to charge extra, they're breaking the T&C and can lose the rights to charge purchases to NETS or credit cards. It's consumer rights... :)
