Thanks for all the suggestions and support
I just checked with B&H (USA online retailer) on warranties here's the reply:
"The camera comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty against defect valid for it usage in the USA as sold by us. For such product taken outside the United States, one would need to check with the manufacturer locally, to see if they will first honor the USA warranty. That would be entirely up to the discretion of the manufacturer in question and out of the control of B&H."
"you may wish to strongly consider our Sagemax warranties as they will provide international coverage and go significantly beyond an ordinary manufacturer's warranty in scope of coverage. Our Sagemax warranties will cover the following:
* Accidental damage (portable equipment only)
* Defects caused by power surges
* Defects in materials and workmanship
* Failures from normal wear and tear
* Mechanical and electrical breakdowns
* Available for US and International customers (not valid if the warranty must be shipped to Florida and the billing address is in that state)
Free transferability: The Plan may be transferred to a subsequent owner of the product at no additional charge. To transfer, call 866-231-9734 or write to NEW at P.O. Box 1818, Sterling, VA 20167-1818. Information provided by you must include the Plan number, date of transfer, new owner?s name, complete address and telephone number."
So it depends whether Sony USA does honor the warranty if it's outside USA, I'm not so sure about that, but the other day I spoke to Sony Singapore, they did say that if I can show them warranty and receipt (even overseas), they can try to do it for me and claim from Sony Hongkong, Sony Singapore had been reasonable so far so I do applaud the customer service going beyond their protocols. however, there wasn't any warranty card from Digitalrev, so I can only say their customer service is rubbish.
B&H does provide warranty card in boxes if the manufacturers provide it, I am not sure if Sony provides one, it seems so from some replies here.
So buying from B&H sounds similar to buying from any electronic shop, just that it's local USA unless the brand endorses international warranty. But buying from DigitalRev one must be again careful, I wonder how many people got caught by this 3rd party thing. B&H has Sagemax (extended warranty) kinda like Harvey Norman style but extends to 3rd party, and now, this is good customer service but of course have to pay and it's not cheap, probably it would nullify any savings one may get from buying overseas, so no point really:bsmilie:
Hope the information is useful, let me know if there's any other info that i may have missed out.
