I dunno what really happened so I can comment little about TS' experience.
What I want to say are these points:
1. Henessy is a nice person.
2. B+W filters are known to have that kind of "issue". Slight discoloration, even what looks like scratches but are not intentionally scratched filter rims. They often look dull in color and even have some kind of uneven color. I don't know what the reason is, but perhaps that's the way brass is. As far as the glass is concerned, I have not seen a scratched or inferior one.
3. I don't understand why people here are so pre-occupied with opening up boxes and boxes of stuffs. Even expensive lenses included. They will go to the shop, Try one lens, shoot a little, mount and dismount (in the process I won't be surprised if it's slightly scratched), claim not sharp enough, take out another lens, look very very closely, opps, got this little tiny dust in the corner, ask for another lens, and go on and on, until they claim what they finally got is a VERY SHARP, "SPECIALLY SELECTED" (See the B&S section) lens! Oh goodness....
Now I wonder.... those others who turn up at the shop to get the supposed "not so good" lenses and stuffs... Are they suckers to get inferior products which have been molested?
Then there are the regular customers and only-talk-but-hardly-take-photos people. They walk into the shop, chit-chat with the boss, ask to "try-try" lenses. The boss willingly takes out the new lens, let the customer molest it till he is happy, then put it back into the box waiting for an unsuspecting customer to buy it.
I think such practices should be stopped. I wish shops will have a "display set" for everyone to play with instead of letting these people "happy-happy" touch brand new stuffs.
True, there are genuine cases where there could be some defects in the production. I have experienced b4 and rectified the situation. But not by opening every box! It's an obvious defect. But by and large, this is very rare.
If ever you spot finger prints, scratches, etc, that's because of the previous customers who make it a ritual to open every box to get supposedly the best. :thumbsd:
Is this a Singaporean kiasu trait?
