For your info, I started this thread before buying the 300D. It's mentioned in my first post. I have no intention to 'hear more' from Nikon sub forum.

And to Pepper & all who responded, I do appreciate your advice.

Ok... hope you like your newly purchased, creaky plastic with 3sec boot up time and not to mention, a snail crawling CF write speed camera... :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Wny need to hear more in Nikon sub-forum??? Just go to where you should, the Canon forum to hear and increase your faith on your new creaky plasticy toy.

Believe me, you don't need a D70... your new Canon 300D will last you a lifetime... just occasionally need to increase your faith in it in the Canon Forum will do... Frankly speaking, your 300D do not need any servicing also... it is made in Japan with a sophisticate technology that will self-clean the CCD, automatic Fault detection and rectification... etc. :D

:bsmilie: Actually wanted to stop writing after I bought the cam. But post keeps coming up and started to get interesting. Just can't resist :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Dont fret.. I know you are getting lots of flak in this forum for getting the 300D.. but only thing I can say.. is.. if you are happy.. nothing else needs to be said.. now.. quit spending so much time here.. and get your ass out there and start shooting..

Hmm....since when did they start making the 300D in Japan?
Unless PQ23 bought a KISS Digital (which would be labelled as KISS Digital on the body and not 300D), the 300D is made in Taiwan. This is to save cost. This has been reported in numerous websites (dpreview, luminous landscape). Perhaps mpenza or any 300D user could 101% verify this, as i remember reading this very clearly when the 300D was released mid last year.

Anyway, both are capable cams what. See which one fits your budget and use. Then be happy. Seriously, some people won't need the speed/burst of the D70, and i'd not make use of ISO 100 (i rarely make use of 200 even), blah etc etc....

Hi,

1st D70 that I rec'd had 3 problems:1. Either dust or burnt pix, not sure. 2. Back focus problem. 3. Minor WB problem - total white background tends to produce pics with blue tint.
Got it replaced.

2nd D70 recd:
2 problems: 1. Back focus problem more obvious than 1st one. 2. W/B problem still exist.
Sent it in to Nikon for checking/cablibration. Guys there helpful.

No digital camera is perfect. I do like the features of the camera despite
some minor bugs.

Ya, that's what I've read before, it's made in Taiwan. But surprisingly it's labeled otherwise on the camera. Anyone?

Dang... I must make sure my B+W filters are made in Japan... :bsmilie: Actually I think UK stuff is also so-so, I prefer germany stuff ;)

PQ23: Chill out, we do like to digress sometimes now and then and shoot the C in the backside and such, bascially when we shoot, it's always a mixture of Canon & Nikon users. Just keep shooting

Err... newbie here  , could someone enlighten me what the hell is back focus?

As the name implies, focusing on background rather than the intended object ;)

BTW, "made in japan" means alot to me. It signifies better quality and manufacturing control. Not only for camera, but for other household equipment as well. Lots of electronics parts are still made in Japan but assembled elsewhere. There must be a reason for doing so.

I would rather look at who is behind the design and manufacturing than where it is done. We are in a 'small world' now.

Your statement implies that Thai products are not up to standard (which is certainly untrue), and you are slandering.

So how are things made in Malaysia? Your Pentium 4 is Made in Malaysia.

hmm....there are 2 versions of Honda CRV. The version that i am driving is assembled in Malaysia (the other version is from Japan). From the very beginning, there have been a few nonsensical problems with the jeep.....shouldn't have been so with a new car :dunno:

I think this differs from product to product. For eg, a fishing rod for popping made in Japan can cost 700-1k range and another taiwanese made cost maybe 500-800. Tho the specs (aka poundage) which both rods are about the same, the price and workmanship differs. The japan one is better made and more egronomical to use. Maybe thats the extra cost is all about.

For sony TV, if u compare one made in Malaysia and one made in Japan, u will see the difference in quality. This is most likely due to different technology and also translate to higher price for the japan made one.

But not all products made in Japan are good tho. Think someone mentioned earlier than Hondas made in Thai has lesser rejects than those made in Japan.

Last time electronics from Hong Kong and Taiwan are considered lousy but guess its very much acceptable now. :)

At the end of the day, boils down to individual preference.

Juz my 2 cents. :)

So far only olympus E-1 is dust resistant.

Already hearing bits here and there that Canon is going to announce a sub 100,000 yen (< 1.5k) dSLR after the 1D Mk II hits the market. So the comparison will be endless. Just shoot.

Hey I'm hearing lots of differing things about back focus. How can I do a simple test for it and if it's there, do I send the camera and all the lens I have to Nikon for calibration or just the camera? Just hard to imagine a Nikon would have such major bugs in it! I've been a Nikon user since 91 and never had any problems with any gear I have. Just sold off my F601 earlier this year after 13+ years and it still works like a dream.

Best to send in the lens and camera. But the prob once you get it well-calibrated for 1 lens, it may result in another lens been mis-calibrated.

So means if I can't get it calibrated for all the lens I have?

300D not really worth to buy compare to D70 by comparing the features.
unless u go for 10D then i will encourage you.

the D70 has more issue with the kit lens. but Nikon can calibrate for you. not a big issue. anyway, see the sample photo, sometime ppl will prefer the colour rendered by specific camera.

Eh, don't simply say la.. I sent my D70 back for focus calibration with the kit lens, and it was super sharp when i got it back. Plus my 50mm 1.8D is also sharp as well. Backfocus is a problem with the body, not the lens
