B+W filters: worth paying so much?

Is it worth it paying so much more for B+W filters over basic hoya ones?

My father in law had a slim B+W UV-Haze filter and the problem is that it cannot fit in a lens cap cos there are no front thread. In the end, he bought a normal "full-height" filter.

Wat differ wif pro1 d and no pro 1 d?

Well, if he's using on zooms, should be quite ok. :)

i realised that the coating of the XS-Pro looks abit bluish tint..whereas the good old F-Pro coating has a brownish tint, however i cant see any difference when shooting with either of them

Juz bought a Kenko Pro1 Digital filter. For the price, it seems worth it. Better than the Hoya UV coated one I have. Saw the Kenko had greenish tint slightly when view at an angle.

Emm, a bit out of point with regards to the topic right?

In fact, no difference at all.

I will like to help to clarify some of the terms and misconception used by some of the users. B+W filters has a few mount series:

Digital Pro: Chrome color , 5mm (non polariser), 7mm (polariser), allows lense cap on.
F-PRO: Black color, 5mm (non polariser), 7mm (polariser), allows lense cap on.
XS-PRO: Black color, 3.4mm (non polariser), TBD mm (polariser), allows lense cap on.
SLIM: Black color, 3mm (non polariser), 5mm (polariser) cannot put lense cap on, has to use filter cap provided.
EW (Extra Wide): This is essentially an 'addon' of the above series, with 'built-in' step down rings of a larger filter glass. Eg 82mm filter with 77mm thread. Use to prevent vignetting.

He is one of the sellers of filter, specialist of B+W filter in Mass Sales corner!

A damn good recommended seller,
with damn price (althought expensive also, but worth it--Filter will NEVER say goodbye if you take care of it).

If have $, why not B+W
If have less $, why not Hoya
If no money, why put on filter?!

Tat is jus my comment. no offence!

Cheers,
Tim

of cos lah...a common sense statement :)

if you cant afford it, just stick to Hoya, Vitacon or Kenko's...... your images will not turn out better or worse

oh wait.... for a low price, one now has an excuse to blame their crappy photography on :bsmilie:

OR one can still turn out great images "despite" using regular filters

purely toungue in cheek seeing how long this thread has survived (since 2007)
