If the rumour of D600 is true, price of D800 can NEVER stay at RRP!
If D600 is lighter & smaller as compared to D800 & I doubt 36MP is really necessary, then we will see D800 price dropping soon once D600 rumour is true.

Added to the better exchange rate given to me for changing so much(yes I was ready with the cash to do business!), it cost me about SGD4200. Ready set, no need to wait, 288 lower than Sin prices... Was offered RM9500 by a shop in Dataran Pahlawan, but 4th in the waiting list... about a few months. Shops around also said that one can get a less than 10k set if you are willing to wait. Anyone wants to buy a used D3?

think it's because of the mentions in various posts that Nikon is "milking" the consumers and stuff like that... but Nikon is still selling the camera at a certain distribution rate to retailers (whatever conditions allegedly attached), setting an RRP, and it's up to the retailers to set the street price to maximize the retailers' profits... so, technically it's not Nikon keeping the street price up, it's the retailers (who of course might also have to deal with the consequences of those alleged conditions attached to camera supply)... not to say who is right or wrong in the charging of high prices but it's just businessErrrrr..... You are correct. Don't quite understand what makes u think ppl think its otherwiseI think ppl got it wrong, it's not Nikon that charge RRP. It's the retail shops.

Yeah. I heard they have to take in a load of Nikon compacts for D800 stock.lol.
Yup if tht is true, which probably is, nikon has a big hand in keeping the d800 price high.

Just came back from Malacca last nite. D800 also in limited supply. At Makhota Parade, one shop said it just sold one unit at Rm10,300 and had no more. Another shop on second floor offered Rm10,200 cash (Rm10,450 credit) after some haggling. I did not have cash with me and decided not to buy to wait for price to come down.
..actually trying to use it to shoot the Diving event at Tp over the weekend, did not feel as confident as with my D3s, nor my D700 due to the much slower FPS. For events fine.Surprisingly the D800 is easier than expected to adapt to. Did a paid job yesterday with that and a 24-120 ads f4 - smooth. Some jobs you can use new equipment to run (of course with old there as backup). Sports shooter do not need that long to run a camera in, normally it takes only a an hour of so to kick start the familiarization - all though to know all the new menus act will take a couple of days of playing around. A pro also means you can work with what ever is in your hands - the equipment is just hardware, the software is the crucial part. Hardware with no or low powered software is dangerous to run a shooting for pay job with.
we have been pampered with higher fps. In sports it is all about knowing when to trigger; if you trigger at wrong moment even the fastest fps may not save you...actually trying to use it to shoot the Diving event at Tp over the weekend, did not feel as confident as with my D3s, nor my D700 due to the much slower FPS.
